Now that XM 70s and XM 80s has American Top 40 with Casey, the next step would be for XM 90s to broadcast either Casey's Top 40, American Top 40 with Shadoe, or both.
What do the rest of you think about the idea?

Since XM has a 90's channel, playing the Shadoe Stevens countdowns would certainly be a no brainer-Same for reruns of "Casey's Top 40"

The problem is - Premiere and anyone affiliated with AT40 would prefer the general public have no recollection that there was ever such a program as "American Top 40 with Shadoe Stevens"
And as for the CT40 shows, Westwood One would prefer no one remember that they were affiliated with Casey Kasem. From what I know, the WW1 shows are officially blacklisted, for lack of a better way to say it.
Don't expect any Shadoe or WW1 shows to make the XM satelite waves.

Yes, Mark. Premiere owns the rights to the Casey's Top 40 shows.

It's hard to say as to whether Premiere or XM will run the Shadoe Stevens era of "American Top 40"-Don't forget,a vast majority of the radio stations in the US favored "Casey's Top 40" and promptly dropped "AT40" from their weekend lineup.

Seems like this question has been answered. 90s began playing the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 today. Having done this, I can see no reason for them to broadcast CT40 since both used the same chart-Radio and Records. I will shut up about this and listen to Rick Dees on XM 80s and XM90s and my collection of CT40s.
Oh, well, maybe terrestrial will broadcast CT40 at some point in the future-at least, I can hope that they will.

I don't like this strategy, as it basically seems to pretend that Casey and AT40 were simply retired for ten years (1988-1998.) But it is what it is and Premiere is well within its rights to follow it regardless. And didn't WW1 destroy the CT40 masters? (There of course are other copies of his shows, which Premiere has the rights to, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for them to be rebroadcast.) While Rick Dees isn't Casey Kasem, I think he does a fine job in his own right and am grateful that he was able to supply a full decade's worth of 90s countdowns for re-airing. He or somebody else should also make countdowns from 2000 and later available for rebroadcast, perhaps on Pop 2K (XM 30). Ideally, I'd like AT40 shows from 2000 to date to be broadcast there, since there isn't the Westwood 1/Premiere issue, but then there would be the matter of skipping back and forth between Casey Kasem and Ryan Seacrest shows.

I hope that Premiere's interest in building the CT40 archives translates into an actual broadcast in the future and, from what I understand, it is Premiere's sole right to broadcast these shows (whether they take Westwood One's objections, if Westwood One were to object, into account is their decision). I don't see Sirius XM broadcasting these shows at this time since they have the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 and their goals at this time don't seem to include the addition of other countdown shows. Things may change in the future-most likely when people who came of age in the 1990s become more nostalgic for that time and push satellite and terrestrial radio harder to represent this.

If XM/Sirius were to run the vintage episodes of "Casey's Top 40",could they edit out the Westwood One references?

Probably so. I tried it on an MP3 version. All that would be necessary would be to cut off the spoken portion at the beginning with all of the advertising (instead starting with the musical introduction) and cut off references at the end to Westwood One and its CEO Norm Pattiz (which can easily be done without ruining the ending jingles). I didn't hear any references to Westwood One in the rest of the show-Westwood One's presence was noted more in the commercials included with CT40 (mainly those dealing with condoms) and not very much at all in the actual countdown content.
It would be a bit harder if they chose to go further and replace "Casey" with "American" so that the show would appear to be "American Top 40". The name "Casey's Top 40" is repeated a great deal in the show, both by Casey or guest host, and in the jingles.

Does anyone know who Norm Pattiz's replacement is? Who the authority figure is now?
