Does anyone have a list of songs that skipped? I know at one point Billie Jean skipped on a show. Corazon by Carole King skips on the 12-15-73 episode.
Personally I like it when it happens, also when you can hear pops that they didn't take out. Makes it sound even more classic!

There are only 3 other instances in the 70s where a song skips....Let's Stay Together on 2/5/72....Use Me on 9/23/72 and C. C. Rider (Chuck Willis) on 10/4/75

bme, sorry but I don't have Pete Battistini's book for the 80s. Someone who does needs to help us out on this one.

And those you listed were generally "grooving" songs where it wasn't too noticible unless you were really paying attention.

so when you say skipping I assume you mean the song source material vinyl skipped when dubbing to tape and not the program discs played on air?

sometimes I think its just a bad edit on AT40's part to shorten the song. I remember on of the 1978 show, LOVE WILL FIND A WAY had the usual edit (edit verse two) and had a very abrupt cut in the music bridge part, it could have been a skip, or just another bad edit.

Yes Snarf. Thats what I meant. You usually can hear the needle jump. Like in Corazon.

Did Shannon Lynn clean up any of these mistakes in the rebroadcasts?

I don't think so. I wouldn't have, it was part of the way it originally aired!

I remember listening to the January 15, 1977 show on WLAP and the #40 song, "Love So Right" by the Bee Gees, skipped. I don't know if it was the show or the record.

During the run of "One Hundred Ways" in 1982, there were several weeks when a skip was noticeable coming out of the bridge (it didn't happen every week though, so AT40 either had two copies of the song or the one copy they had only skipped occasionally, in the same spot). Definitely not an intentional edit since it only cut about three seconds.
