Since WRIP left out the optional extras this week (5/15/82 countdown) I went ahead and recorded the show again from WQSR's stream (Jack FM). Known to be a high quality stream, I threw both .wav files in Logic and A/Bd them on a few tunes. It's subtle, but WRIP has the edge to my ears. WQSR has a little more bass emphasis which tends to obscure the mid and high-end stuff. I remember when WRIP posted to these forums that they'd implemented some technical enhancements to their stream quality. Well I've been recording from them since and never been disappointed.
WRIP airs AT40 the 80s at 8AM Eastern. Hopefully they'll play the extras. Otherwise I'll have to do the Jack FM thing to get the extras. But I'll be sticking with WRIP for the 80s show as long as they play it.
HTH!

I used to go with WFMX on my iPod because it was the best first run of the week broadcast. Now that I have a terrestrial station airing in my area again, I broke out my Radio Shark and am recording from that. Can't beat the quality of that, and I can save it to my computer.

I've found CKRU out of Peterborough, Ontario has a reliable, good quality stream and they play all of the extras for both the 70s (Sat) and 80s (Sun) shows.

I actually record both so that I have a backup in case my SUnday night show doesn't record properly. I combined boths shows to test this a while back and I don't agree. WQSR is alot crisper than WRIP. I'm still looking for another station that comes close and so far haven't found one.

Well of course sound quality is subjective. One thing I did notice - WQSR still suffers periodic dropouts - at least on my system. So using the for my main show recording would be out of the question. I just hope WRIP continues with AT40 the 80s, with or without the extras, which I can get from "Jack".

I am a WQSR guy thru and thru. They seem to have best overall - sound quality, production, hit the commercial breaks well, play the whole ending theme, etc. They do have dropouts every now and then, but not many.
Another station that does a real good job is WNNS. Their sound is slightly different (a little lighter on the bass), but very good overall, and almost never drops out. Only negative is they are inconsistent on playing extras.
WMMX has almost the same sound as WQSR, but they mess up the beginning of the shows and commercials often.

I agree, big picture always puts WQSR as ol' reliable. It took me a few shows to not miss the quick "recent" Promo/ID from Casey on the back side of an extra. Playing as much of the ending music is cool with me, kinda like "back in the day" when the Sunday night intern was out having a cigarette as it ran on and on until he ran back in!
