Does anyone know if XM plans to have any AT40 special programing for the holidays? It would be great if they played some year end countdowns between Christmas and New Years.

I heard a rumor from a decent source that the Top 100 of 1976 was scheduled for the 70s XM channel.

I would certainly expect to hear, and would be shocked if we didnt hear end of the year countdowns as we approach 2007. As to how many?!? Maybe just 1 on each decades channel, 2 if were lucky?!? But who knows, this is all unprecedented and Casey Kasemas was lil different situation.

Well, according to their site it's not going to be 1976... I guess all-wanted cue sheets for 1976 year ender haven't been found.
It's going to be 1973 on Sat Dec 23'rd.

The Top 50 of 1979 is playing now and obviously will be playing on Wed as well. As for the Top 100 of 1976, they probably plan on playing it after Xmas but before New Years as that's when most year ends were broadcast (BTW Someone was selling the 1976 YE on Ebay a week or so ago and since they are from Memphis, 60 miles from where I live, I contacted them in hopes of getting a copy of their cue sheets to send on to Shannon but they never replied). Hopefully if the person who won that auction happens to participate or view this board, they will make copies of the cue sheets available so that XM can broadcast the show. If anyone else here does have those cue sheets, please consider making a copy available for Shannon to pass on if they don't already have them.
The Dec 22 1973 is the Top 40 Christmas hits special (a good show in its own right), not the 1973 YE (only a Top 40 due to the Christmas special above) which was broadcast on Dec 29, 1973.

I was hoping they would possibly do a marathon of year end countdowns during new years eve and new years day. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

While I like the idea of a marathon as well, we need to keep in mind that the more AT40 marathons played by XM the more likely those fans who dislike AT40 will complain. Remember how many of those types started whining when the Aug 2006 marathon was broadcast and how sensitive 80s Director Rick Stacy on 80s on 8 was about this? Although Casey Kasemas from this time in 2002-Feb 2003 is a poor example due to the temporary nature of the agreement to broadcast, overplay of AT40 was cited as a reason for demanding that XM cancel AT40 for good.
Just my feelings on the subject of AT40 marathons. The real decisions on those will be made by XM management, however, by letting them know how much we appreciate them broadcasting AT40, we can encourage them to keep up the good work and based upon the responses from Stacy and 70s Director, John Clay that I have received, these messages do make a difference as they show how many listeners support AT40.
If they do broadcast a marathon in the future (I don't know of any being planned), we need to be ready to send them messages of support in enough volume to counter the negative ones sent by those who want no DJs, no programs, etc.

I know they can't do marathons very often, but I think new years eve and new years day would be appropriate to do year end countdowns. Back in the late 70s and 80s, there would always be different year end countdowns on the radio over the new year holiday. Some were locally produced, others national like AT40, Rick Dees, and the Opus year end countdowns.

According to the XM web site, they will air the top 100 of 1976 part 1 on 12/30/06. I assume part 2 will air the following week.
