Top 5 TV shows that week: 1. "The Jeffersons" (CBS) 2. "20/20" (ABC) 3. "Hart To Hart" (ABC) 4. "60 Minutes" (CBS) 5. "Three's Company" (ABC)
Mind you, the scripted fare was in repeats.
Top Movies 1. "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" (20th-Century Fox) 2. "Raiders Of The Lost Ark" (Paramount) 3. "Tarzan, The Ape Man" (MGM) 4. "Stripes" (Sony) 5. "Superman II" (Warner Bros.)
Looks like Fox re-released "The Empire Strikes Back" during this time after it had been released the previous summer (I was only 1 year old then).

Looks like Fox re-released "The Empire Strikes Back" during this time after it had been released the previous summer (I was only 1 year old then). George Lucas was already utilizing this avenue then too? I guess he was perfecting it for later use then. I was 4 and obviously have no recollection of this either.

On the U.K. chart you have to go all the way down to #16 to find a U.S. hit; "For Your Eyes Only" by Sheena Easton. Spandau Ballet was the only act in that top 5 that would hit later in the states. Further down the chart I see Depeche Mode, Tom Tom Club, Dexy's Midnight Runners, Kate Bush and Duran Duran. There's also songs by Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Abba that were not U.S. hits.
The layout Department at Billboard had it's work cut out for them at this time because of that Stars On 45 record. (#25 that week) Fitting all the singular titles of the medley, as they appeared on the record, into the Hot 100 page was an accomplishment. (The follow-up, at #68 that week, was simply listed as "Medley II") And I recall only a couple times that I heard Casey Kasem announce the record by that official title.
As for anything remotely connected to the big event; in the Billboard Singles Picks there's "Prince Charles" by folk singer/comic Christine Lavin. (A song that the passage of time has made in very bad taste!)
