Hi-
Love the site!
I was listening to the Top 100 of 1976 this morning and Casey referred to 2 novelty songs including "Disco Duck". Why was "Junk Food Junkie" by Larry Groce never considered a novelty song?
Also, in 1980, I remember Casey doing some kind of comparsion between the beginning of Olivia Newton John's "Magic" to some other song. What was the comparison and do you happen to know the show date? I'm pretty sure it was while the song was #1, so that would be some time in August.
Thanks,
Michael

Cool44, I believe that Casey remarked that the first few bars of "Magic" resembled the intro to Three Dog Night's "Mama Told Me" in terms of the chord structure (something like DA-da-DU, DA da-DU..DA-da-DU). This was probably on one of the August 1980 AT40 shows, shortly after the show celebrated its tenth year on the air. Interestingly, while pointing out the supposed similarity between the melodies of both songs, he also stated that "Mama Told Me...." was AT40's very first No. 1 hit. He concluded by saying that the two records had nothing else in common, other than similar chord structure in the intros and both of them hitting No. 1.
