Love Is Like Oxygen - 13 weeks in the Top 40 and only one week in the Top 10.

Oops - thanks
But would weeks in Hot 100 enter into it? I guess so if AT40 was using the Billboard year end chart. Those 25 weeks must be the biggest reason.

AT40 used BB's year end charts in 1978 and BB counted weeks and positions on the entire Hot 100.

LOL thanks you were answering as I was modifying. I wonder how many songs have finished so high on the year end chart while spending so few weeks in the Top 10. Aside from Why Me Lord of course.

just like DEVILS GUN in BB's year end 1977 chart was #100, too bad AT40 did not use BB's list that year. that song lasted 27 weeks in 1977!

Yeah, Devil's Gun only peaked at #36 on the Hot 100! I think it's the lowest charting song to ever make a Top 100 of the year. And of course as mentioned the total weeks on the Hot 100 are counted.

It's suggested that songs like that charting low on the Hot 100 but finishing comparatively high for the year were one reason that AT40 compiled their own year-end chart for 1977. The other reason would be "You Light Up My Life", which Billboard deferred to 1978.
