I noticed that some of you reference the ARC Weekly Top 40 countdown.
What was the difference between both countdowns?

ARC uses a chart created by themselves whereas AT40 uses BB (1970-95), RR or Mediabase (1998-)

Yeah, bremember Shaode's countdowns being WAY off of BB in the 90's especially.
For example: Queen hit #2 in 1992 with th re-release of Bohemian Rhapsody. I don't remember him EVER playin it higher then 10 or maybe up to 15.

I don't remember him EVER playin it higher then 10 or maybe up to 15. By that time, they were no longer using the Hot 100, if that's what you were referring to. In the case of "Bohemian Rhapsody", it got to #9 in 1992 on Billboard's Top 40 Airplay Monitor which Shadoe's AT40 was then using, though #2 on the Hot 100 (it also peaked at #9 on the H100 the first time, in 1976). Incidentally, in 1992 it got to #3 in Radio & Records/CT40.

so which one holds more credence? is the ARC just another countdown like the dozens that radio stations have or does it mean something like At40 does/did?

I hope someone answers the preceding post's question especially when you consider this. Whereas Bette Davis Eyes had the same chart activity at #1 on both, racking up 9 weeks on top interrupted on both charts by Star on 45, Endless Love racked up 10 weeks at #1 on ARC compared to 9 weeks on AT40. Finally, Physical racked up 10 weeks at #1 on AT40 while Waiting for a Girl like You spent 10 weeks at #2. On the ARC chart, it was quite different. Physical only spent 5 weeks on top and did relinquish the top spot to Waiting for 3 weeks. They actually went back and forth for 8 intermingling weeks. That does sound more plausible than what happened on Billboard. Anyone have any thoughts?

To the best of my knowledge, no official countdown ever utilized the ARC chart, save for the Sirius/XM 80s countdown, which used it for a couple of weeks back in February.

The current SiriusXM 80's countdown uses the Cashbox lists, although one week it used Billboard as Casey did not do the top 40 for that week.

I think any comparisons across various charts would always present challenges especially if the survey periods, market sizes, airplay vs sales etc are different. For my money Billboard remains the most authoritative and consistent even though their formats have been modified over time. What say you all.

I think Billboards pretty much an archaic joke now. I prefer Mediabase. Perhaps it's because I am so countdown oriented and that's all the shows I listen to use for the most part. Last time I purchased a BB magazine, I noticed they apparently have the same recurrent rules on their country chart that Mediabase has. The country chart was the only thing I thought they were still an authority on. After I saw that, I threw it in the trash and have never looked at them again.
