I was listening to the show from July 1980 where he went thru his book of records.
I think he made a mistake.
He says that the song with the most repeated word or phrase that made the top 10 was Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers. When in actuality it is Western Union by The Five Americans.
They say the dit dit dit part WAY more than Bill says I Know in his song. What gives?

Listen to the 5 Americans tune and count the times they say Dit in the chorus. In the first one alone its more than 26 times!

How many times does Steve Perry sing Na Na at end the end of Journey's Loving Touching Squeezing?

Maybe in their criteria they meant actual words or phrases, and "dit" and "na" didn't count.

Dit is a word (or are they saying dot.... either way) and as for the Journey tune, It didn't hit the top 10. It only made #16.

Dit is a word (or are they saying dot.... either way) They are actually repeating: Dit, da dit, da dit They didn't feel this satisfied the criteria of a word or a phrase, but instead, just making sounds.

They were mimicking a telegraph machine with that phrase. And while we're at it, what about Hey Jude, Certainly they Na Na (for 4 frickin minutes) and alot more than Bill Withers, Journey & The Five Americans.

In "Hey Jude", each set of na na's are separated by a "Hey Jude" so it doesn't count.
