It's been a while since I heard oldies radio, but I don't remember "Brand New Key" by Melanie or "The Streak" by Ray Stevens being played. Both of these were #1 hits in their day (1971 and 1974, respectively) and played on the radio constantly then.

In Rochester NY where I'm from, neither get airplay on our oldies station. Maybe I'll call and request them this week and see....

I still hear those 3 but not the others you listed... I loved Michael Damian's version of Rock On!

Last year or the year before, Stacey Q actually performed Two of Hearts live on the TODAY show. Interesting! I'll have to check out a link to that.

I never watch the Today show, but somehow I actually caught this Stacey Q performance! Not very impressive. Somewhat embarrassing actually. Sometimes it's better just to remember these hits and singers just the way the were!

The online services (Rhapsody, Pandora) go a long way toward remedying the many deficiencies in the narrow radio playlists of today.

cheocheo....how bizarre because like you, I never watch the TODAY show either but for whatever reason and I have forgotten why I even had the TV on that day as I never even turn it on at that hour, I was watching it and saw Stacey Q sing that song. Strange stuff here.

that's what you get with paranoid consultants and programmers frighteningly afraid of tune out and paying far too much attention to music testing and the 50-100 people in the test that may or may not like the music that's tested.
I've done audience music research test tapes....typical 10-12 sec hook of the song times 700 cuts at one test.
a station could easily add or drop a song based on testing, and if you buy a list from a consultant, it could be not even in your area.
Nice thing about At40 classics is that I think a lot of stations are playing songs they'd never touch again otherwise. and may add to regular rotation.

I wouldn't say that. I bet if you ask any man here and said their wife would look like at at 50, NO ONE would complain.
