Wow, you hadn't heard Leave It? The video was all over MTV in 1984. LOVED IT! The upside down version was the best one!

Sounds like it could be cool. I don't have any shows with that tune to check it out. I'll have to youtube it later I guess.

I grew up listening to music during the 70's, but I hear a lot of songs on the 70's shows that I never heard before.
The biggest surprise I had was hearing another song by Jigsaw besides "Sky High". I always had them pegged as a one-hit-wonder. The song was called "Love Fire" from 1976, and I instantly liked it.

I can add "Jungle Fever" to my list of great songs discovered because of AT40. This song was definitely censored by the stations I listened to back then because it is now the highest peaking (#8) song that I did not recognize from 1972. Got to be the only instrumental in history that was censored. Kind of funny when you think about it.

dukedeb: How did they edit that song. The song would be REALLY annoying if all you heard were the actual instrumental sections. I'd love to hear that. Casey never censored it that I know of....

They did not edit "Jungle Fever" on this AT40 show. Good thing. It would also be much less of a song if you just heard the instrumental sections. Actually, they may have edited it but you can't tell when XM does an AT40. Usually they will do their own editing and play the longer version of a song if the original AT40 played a short or edited version. I know that because when both networks do the same show you can tell the difference. i.e the 1/13/73 show, "Do It Again" was a short version on Premiere but the long version on XM.

Clarifying my last post. If XM edited the song, what I meant is they played the long version and some edited into a real instrumental version that may ahve been played on theoriginal AT40. By the way, the song is offically listed as an instrumental. Of course, there are voices in the song as we all know.

Well thats tyhe strange thing about AT40. Sometimes Casey was playing the 45 and other times the album. Case in point. A show I listened to from early 80 had BOTH! In the recap was the album version of Rock With You by MJ and when they got down to it at the end, it was the single edit from the 45.
Do It Again WAS edited on the 45 to about 3:40 or so. Main big edit was the removal of the weird keyboard solo. After the guitar solo it made an abrupt edit to the next time there as singing.
As for Jungle Fever, a non moaing edit (for lack of callingit an inst edit) would annoy everyone. With the exception of the occasional horn parts, its a repetitive mess without the moans.

Any minor hit from July of 1970 to the end of the 70's especially the old school R&B and a lot of songs listed on this post so far. The best song I've discovered is Rock 'N Roll Baby by the Stylistics. I purchased their greatest hits c.d. just for that song.

One other note too. Songs like Jigsaw's Love Fire and Absolutely Right by the Five Man Electrical Band are on the Rhino Records Have A Nice Day 1970's collection. I have all 25 c.d.'s and there are some great "guilty pleasures" on them.

bestmusicexpert, the same thing that happened with "Do It Again" happened with "Everything I Own". On the 2/5/72 AT40 aired on Premiere 3 weeks ago, it was at #40 and they edited out that disticntive last verse. On the AT40 on XM, they played the whole song. Although with the song at #8, I have a feeling even the original AT40 has that version. You don't play a short version of a great song by a big name artist. Well you shouldn't anyway.
