When XM used to be on Directv, I DVR'ed the shows so 1- I could listen to them at my leisure and 2- at some point, save them somehow in mp3 form.
I just got a sound recorder that will transfer it to an mp3 file and I can use the usb cord to transfer it to my PC. BUT: I am getting muddy & muffled recordings. Listenable, but not totally. I have determined that its the receiver giving me problems.
Does Directv have something that effectively blocks you from DVR'ing things and copying them over?
Is there a way around this?
Can anyone help or give any advice on this?
Thanks in advance.

Try to connect the original source ( satellite receiver, ect) to an intermediate hifi or sound system . Then connect the audio outlet of that sound system to the recorder device. IMO, if there is a block or something, that thing maybe disappears that way.
I have problems like this sometimes when coding in mp3 and that ruins the hole recording. I use a minidisc in LP4 mode in order to make a master copy from the original source. Then if the recording on mp3 fails, I have the opportunity of doing another one, till it is OK.
