Gladys Horton, lead singer of The Marvelettes, passed away Wednesday at the age of 66-She was at a nursing home in Sherman Oaks,CA where she had been recovering from a stroke-In 1961,The Marvelettes gave Motown Records its first #1 hit:"Please Mr.Postman"-It was written by Freddie Gorman,an actual letter carrier. The Marvelettes had other smash hits such as "Playboy" (1962),"Don't Mess With Bill" (1966) ,"The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" (1967) & "My Baby Must Be A Magician" (1968)-The Marvelettes are one of the few Motown groups that haven't been inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame-Now with Horton's passing, maybe that will become a reality.
