Teena Marie died earlier today (December 26). Although white, while never big on the pop charts she was huge on the R&B charts with 29 singles from 1979-2009.
I will never forget when "Lovergirl" was out. For several weeks Billy Ocean's "Loverboy" was in the Top 40 simultaneously.
Other known hits were "Square Biz", "Ooh La La La", "I Need You Lovin'", and "I'm a Sucker for Your Love".

I just played "Portuguese Love" just this past weekend on "Josh Joel's Top 40 The 80s" as an extra and filler unannounced. That single is a quiet storm classic and it peaked at #54.

Here are a couple of other interesting tidbits about Lady T:
1. For all you game show fans out there, Teena Marie remade her song "Square Biz" for the Tom Bergeron version of Hollywood Squares. It was used from 2002-2004.
2. Along with "Lovergirl", she made it to the ARC Weekly Top 40 with "I Need Your Lovin'" back in 1980.
RIP, Lady T!
