I stand corrected. This was based on the Billboard chart. But why were some songs skipped such as Riders on the Storm and Liar? Anyway, something is better than nothing and it was nice to hear 1971 again. I was beginning to wonder if the year had been stricken from recorded history. That last sentence was directed at Premiere and Sirius!

You'll hear 1971 now and then on my Classic Rock Countdown. We plan on doing all 20 years in rotation, then putting them all back into the proverbial hat and starting over with all 20 again. No favoritism on certain years on my show!

bme, one song you might play on one of those countdowns is one that was played as an extra in this 1971 countdown that I had not heard before....Grand Funk's cover of Gimme Shelter. Really an intense song. This failed to sniff the top 40 making that the time the critics saying Grand Funk is too loud were probably at their loudest. "You guys can't even make the 40 with a classic Stones song" might have been one of their comments.

If it made the hot 100 then it'll more than likely have hit the rock stations listings from that timeframe that I have. But also it could show up as an extra. But when listening, you'll know when I'm playing it because undoubtedly, I'll tell some sort of story about it.

This week's show will be the Top 40 countdown from August 29, 1964. Due to the short length of songs I have added 12 extra songs in the show.

Are all 40 of the hits going to be included this week. One or two seemed to be missing last week. I've been meaning to ask about that.

Are all 40 of the hits going to be included this week. One or two seemed to be missing last week. I've been meaning to ask about that. . All 40 songs should be in the countdown. Let me know if one/some are missing. Sometimes I do not get to hear these when I assemble each show from each MP3 file. Sorry I did not reply sooner. We got hit hard with hurricane Irene here and power came back on after 5 days. Hope where you are was better.

This weeks show is a repeat broadcast from September 7, 1958. I aired this once or twice over the last few years. Also this is a two hour show and not the usual three.
