I watched the first ten minutes of the new "Hawaii Five-O" series because I wanted to see what they did with the opener. While the visuals had modern day production values the theme music was just like it sounded on the original series.
According to Wikipedia, the new show is using a newly recorded version of the original Morton Stevens arrangement after the producers got some negative feedback on a synth & guitar version they had planned on using.
I was thinking back to when the "Mission Impossible" theme was re-worked for the 1996 film. To me; that version worked!
Who knows if this new "Five-O" show will last on the tube but, for now, one of the coolest TV themes of all time is back again. ;D

The theme was a #4 hit for The Ventures in 1969. There were also lyric variations on it by Sammy Davis Jr. and Don Ho. The Brian Setzer Orchestra recorded a cover of it during a concert in Tokyo and it was also done by hard-rock guitarist Gary Hoey.
