TUESDAY, AUGUST 3, 2010 -- Bobby Hebb, who was famous for the #1 Cash Box pop chart hit "Sunny" in the summer of 1966, died Tuesday morning, August 3, 2010, at the Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was 72, according to the Associated Press. No cause of death was announced.
"Sunny" was shot to #1 on the Cash Box pop chart the last weekend of August, 1966, and was the magazine's third biggest single for all of 1966. Hebb wrote "Sunny" as a tribute to two people--his brother, who was murdered outside of a Nashville nightclub, and to former President John F. Kennedy. So popular was the song that Hebb toured with the Beatles during its height of popularity. Hebb's followup release, "A Satisfied Mind," barely cracked the Cash Box top 40 at #40.
Among the other performers to have recorded "Sunny" are Jose Feliciano, Wilson Pickett and Marvin Gaye. Hebb was writing songs and was involved with his own publishing company and record label up to 2007.

Hebb also co-wrote Natural Man by Lou Rawls and was a member of Roy Acuff's band and toured with the Beatles. Quite a wide range of styles.
