Hopefully, this means that he will have to give up American Top 40. I'm sorry I feel this way, but ever since Ryan took over the mike from Casey, American Top 40 has become nothing more than a gossip show. If I wanted to hear a gossip show, I'd watch one of those on TV. As a result, whenever I'm not listening to my collection, I prefer listening to Rick Dees's Weekly Top 40.
I know Casey probably wouldn't be able to take it back but maybe his son, Mike, could. There are many potential hosts out there that are 100% more talented than Ryan Seacrest.

I am not a Ryan fan either, but the article speculated that he would take the countdown show with him should he move to CBS.

If this comes true, it will cause quite a major shift in the CHR and Hot AC radio airwaves.
The hundreds and hundreds of Clear Channel affiliates of both his weekday "On Air" show as well as American Top 40 would probably lose Ryan's shows to crosstown CBS affiliates in applicable markets. This could result in quite a few jobs lost at CBS stations if they were to pick up the weekday midday show, as I know CBS is one of the few companies that still has live personalities on several stations.
Additionally, if Ryan lost the 'AT40' name, it would be another major shift in AT40 history. Would Clear Channel attempt to continue the show? And with who? Would we have two major countdown shows? AT40 and RT40 (Ryan's Top 40). While this is still a ways a way and it's just a rumor, it could have significant impact on several radio stations and the future of American Top 40.

So if Seacrest left AT40, but didn't start his own new countdown show... who would be the new AT40 host?

Seacrest's Clear Channel deal is for KIIS Mornings. His Premiere deal for the midday show and AT40 are totally separate. It will be interesting to see if he walks away from all of it, or just the gig that requires he get up at 4am.

TMZ says Seacrest's contract with Clear Channel expires in November. They say this as they talk about rumors about Seacrest teaming up with Larry King trying to get Larry back on radio when his CNN show is done.

It will be interesting to see if he walks away from all of it, or just the gig that requires he get up at 4am. If that's so, then it might not make any difference to listeners outside LA. The news articles about him quite likely leaving Clear Channel make no mention of AT40, and there has not been any indication of him leaving that. To the contrary, the recently revamped AT40 website is highlighted with a huge picture of Ryan and links to his other sites, and apparently votes at his personal website for songs are now factored into the chart rankings. These changes don't strike me as indicative of a possible change in hosts. Frankly, if Ryan did leave AT40, it would only be an improvement if Premiere changed the show's format back to the more traditional Casey pattern of more chart facts and Long Distance Dedications and cut the interview/gossip stuff, which Ryan does as well as anyone. But while we might like that, it should be remembered that after 6 1/2 years many current AT40 listeners are only familiar with the Seacrest version and it's not clear how they'd respond to a dramatic change in style or format.

I don't think they should bring back the LDD's. Supposedly Premiere retired those when Casey left.

FWIW, if Seacrest's departure means the end of his hosting AT40, if he hosted one on CBS I could see it being called "The On-Air Top 40 Countdown" or whatever weekday show he would be hosting then.

I think this actually is a good thing for AT40. Ryan will continue to host the successful current shows, and Premiere will continue to syndicate the Casey classics. Despite the fact that many of us don't care for Ryan's AT40, it's a huge hit and in terms of keeping Ryan, AT40, and the Casey replays all with Premiere it's a win-win.
