If you were a fan of the Detroit Tigers or of baseball in general, you know by now we lost one of the great sportscasters of all time in Ernie Harwell.
I can speak for myself that even as a kid, I enjoyed listening to AM radio because of Ernie and Paul Carey. For any of you who grew up in Michigan, as well as Ohio, Indiana, etc., you know what I am talking about. The Detroit Tigers radio broadcasts were the envy of all of MLB!
I don't know if Ernie and Casey ever met (It's possible---Casey does have Michigan roots!), but both did have one thing in common: both were wrongfully fired from jobs they were very good at (Casey in 1988 and Ernie in 1991) and loved and respected by everyone, only to return to that job years later and get to retire on their own terms! And both have been very grateful to their audiences!
