It was 40 years ago Paul McCartney publicly announced that The Beatles would never work together again. There would later come statements from the other Beatles and from Apple that things were OK, or that any breakup was temporary but it did prove to be the end of pop music's greatest partnership.

Hard to believe it was forty years ago that The Beatles decided to call it quits-It was truly the end of an era-By the way,their final #1 song "The Long & Winding Road" was played on the very first episode of "AT40" in July 1970.
