So far IT has been very good. They may be leaving off a few songs but they are playing almost every top 40 hit, plus a few that didn't make the top 40. I hope they will replay IT again maybe over the Christmas holidays.

Just curious as to what 1981 songs are missing that are difficult to obtain. This is actually just a small sampling of songs that made the Top 40 in 1981 that don't appear on the IT list (I could compile a full list if I had more time): Michael Stanley Band, "He Can't Love You" Fred Knoblock & Susan Anton, "Killin' Time" The Outlaws, "Riders In The Sky" Firefall, "Staying With It" Elvis Presley, "Guitar Man (1981 mix)" John O'Banion, "Love You Like I Never Loved Before" Don McLean, "Since I Don't Have You" Pure Prairie League, "Still Right Here In My Heart" Jim Photoglo, "Fool In Love With You" Jesse Winchester, "Say What" Carole Bayer Sager, "Stronger Than Before" Lulu, "I Could Never Miss You" Franke & The Knockouts, "You're My Girl" Robbie Patton, "Don't Give It Up" Stevie Woods, "Steal The Night" Some of these songs made it into the mid-20s on the chart, so the only reason I can think of for them being left off is that XM wasn't able to find CD copies of them.

I will contest some of these are hard to find on CD. I have yet to see "Steal The Night", "Don't Give It Up" & "Fool In Love With You" on CD. These are long out-of-print and never made to CD. Also, the Susan Anton album "Foxy" is only available as import from Japan. I would suggest that they hire Joel Whitburn for every song that hit the Hot 100 for the vinyl source & Shannon Lynn for digital enhancements.

Some of these have appeared on the Rhino series Radio Daze, which was a five volume set covering the early eighties, similar to the Have a Nice Day series. I do not know if these CD's are still available. Some of these titles were also released on Time-Life compilations.

Yeah, I have the "Radio Daze" series... unfortunately it must not have been a big seller, as Rhino gave up after just five volumes (covering 1980-mid '81) and it's now out of print (the Fred Knoblock and John O'Banion songs were featured). As for some of the other songs, I was able to buy a near-mint 45 of the Jim Photoglo song off eBay for a couple of bucks, and got the Lulu and Carole Bayer Sager songs off a p2p service (I don't feel bad for illegally downloading them, since I couldn't find them available anywhere else).

Thanks, Nicky... I'll have to look for some of those (although the imports are generally out of my price range). Maybe you could get in contact with XM and fill in some of their blanks!

Regarding "Sugar Dont Bite" by Sam Harris...
I was a big Sam Harris fan in the 80s. for those who don't remember, he won the Male Vocalist of the Year category on Star Search in 1984 which was the same year Sawyer Brown (future country starts) won Best Group.
I have Sam Harris' first two post-Star Search pop albums (the first, which includes Sugar Dont Bite and his incredible version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow, on LP and cassette and his second album on cassette).
BUT... the "Sam Harris" (first) LP with SDB is going for $75 used on CD on Amazon as we speak. Ok, yes, that may be above the price range for someone wanting one song, but it is out there. I believe both fo those albums were released on CD in Asia.
But it IS available.
Maybe someone on this site could "creatively" put together an MP3 CD of al of these hard to find tunes that we could all trade for... maybe?
