XM is doing a special called IT; The History of Pop Music. Currently it's on the 60's channel, but next week it will be on 70's and then 80's. Does anyone know how this will affect the AT40 schedule?

But if you think about it, "AT40" is a much better representation of the complete music of the decade than IT. After all, IT purports to play every Top 40 song of the decade, but it doesnt/hasnt. AT40 plays the top 40... period.

And if they played AT40 like IT it would serve to completely turn the XM nation against the show entirely. I am perfectly fine with IT running in place of AT40 for a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the info Alfred. I haven't listened to IT except just a few minutes on 60's so I will reserve judgement for now.

Here’s the schedule for all decades: www.xmradio.com/it/index.jspHere’s the pdf link to all its play lists: www.xmradio.com/programming/it.jsp

Oh, Im not suggestign they play AT40 like it. Agreed Paul. it would, AGAIN, turn the XM community against At40. But then I wonder why the XM community seems to LOVE "IT?" I mean, I like it a lot too, but I love AT40. I wonder if it goes back to the theory that what the hardcore XMers seem to want is an iPod on shuffle.

But then I wonder why the XM community seems to LOVE "IT?& None of that annoying "talking" that AT40 has. The XM subculture hates being exposed to human personality.

If you want to see AT40 played like "IT" , think about the Casey Kasemas broadcast from Dec 25 2002 to Jan 1 2003 on 80s on 8 when nothing but AT40 was played. The reaction to that was MUCH louder than the reaction by those who were upset earlier this month when XM returned AT40. In fact, the negative feedback in 2003 was such that XM pulled AT40 (or so they said). Later, everyone found out that XM only had the rights until the end of Feb 2003.
As much as I enjoyed the Marathon this time, I feel that if XM played another one too soon and too often, that would have the effect of rallying opposition to AT40 from the IPOD types. However, much of the opposition recently was not that it was extensive (most people probably either like AT40 or have a neutral attitude toward it) but loud and came from only a few listeners of that type.

I'm enjoying listening to IT, if for nothing else than to hear songs that don't make it into XM's rotation very often, if at all. But I agree, not every chart hit is there, and you don't really need Joel Whitburn's books to realize it.

Yeah... I peaked ahead to 1981 (there's a .pdf list available for each decade) and several of my favorite Top 40 hits are missing (they're songs that aren't readily available on CD, but you'd think XM would have made an effort to get copies for the sake of completeness). Still, can't complain too much, since there's so much variety that we are hearing.

Just curious as to what 1981 songs are missing that are difficult to obtain.

TIME STAMP - AT 40 would have started 1/2 hour ago (It is now Sat 9/2 9:30 a.m. Los Angeles) and IT is on May 1975
