I think every artist, save for Prince who had the sure shot, on the 1990 show that aired a few weeks back is still alive.

Funny to hear Rick bring up Snow's one-hit-wonder status (actually he had a second hit, "Girl I've Been Hurt", but no surprise if he forgot that.) He played clips of "Snow, 1993/95/96/97" with a clip of "Informer" each time, "and that's the career of Snow". 22 years later Snow recently returned to the top 40--with "Con Calma", which interpolates "Informer". So Snow 2019 still has that song delivering for him....

On the chart date of May 18, 1990, one week after Luther Vandross fell off, I didn't see anyone who wasn't still alive, unless there were some band members I'm not aware of. 1989 began with Michael Jackson and most of the year had Milli Vanilli and then Prince in the second half of the year. www.americanradiohistory.com/Archive-RandR/1990s/1990/RR-1990-05-18.pdf

The week "Ready Or Not" fell off was July 28, 1990, and that week, and the week after, I believe everyone is still alive. Until then, I couldn't find another week where every artist is still alive until March 14, 1998! This was followed by a two-week run of James Horner's "Southampton" being the only dead artist, then a long stretch before ODB debuted on Pras Michel's "Ghetto Superstar", lasting much of the spring of 1998. I think everyone from February 20-27, 1999 is also still alive, then "Heartbreak Hotel" and "No Scrubs" debuted the week after.

Some nice research there! What would be much more difficult would to be find the first chart going back where everyone is dead. I'm guessing sometime in the early 1950s, before Pat Boone started charting, or maybe the '40s.

I'm guessing sometime in the early 1950s, before Pat Boone started charting, or maybe the '40s. And that's just confining it to singers or bandleaders, or who was officially credited for the hit. It would be far more difficult to try to suss out the birth and death dates of each and every one of those big band musicians; you could probably go back to the 30s and dredge up some still living 90 or 100-something band musicians or vocalists who charted. Looking only at #1 hits, the longest ago one I could find with a still living main artist, or part of them, was "Rag Mop" by the Ames Brothers in 1950; Ed Ames is still living (the only such member of that family quartet.) Tony Bennett has the longest ago #1 by a living solo artist ("Because of You" in 1951).

The apps are now updated:
80s: Aug 23, 1986 90s: Aug 21, 1999 D2k: Aug 23, 2008CHR
Both 90s and d2k are repeat from 2017, and 80s are last year repeat as mentioned before.
Seems like nowadays are almost getting 2017 year repeats. So pointless

At least this time of year, 1988 isn't so bad since the AT40 series has already ended. But 1992 is the same old same old.

KZOY surprised me this morning. The first song I heard this morning was "Nightrain" by Guns N Roses from 1989 and was introduced by Rick Dees. I heard this about 45 minutes before the scheduled start time of 7am Eastern, 6am Central. My first thought was that Rick's countdown was starting an hour earlier than before now and that he was finally playing a 1989 countdown. No such luck. KZOY is now airing "Daily Dees" as their overnight service 7 days a week. For more details, go to sunnyradio.com for their complete schedule or to listen live.
