what songs made the biggest jump to #1. Usually songs would only get to #1 from spots 4, 3 or 2. Can you think of any songs off hand that made huge jumps to #1?

I believe the biggest jump to #1 on American Top 40 was on September 4, 1971 when "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" by Paul and Linda McCartney moved from #12 to #1.

The Beatles is the classic example based on "reported" sales and airplay chart methodology. That record was broken by the Kelly/Dion #1 which I believe was tied to a changeover in chart methodology. These are the five biggest gains to #1 in Hot 100 history and a nice quick trivia link also! : www.music.us/billboardmagazine.html52–1 - Kelly Clarkson "A Moment Like This" October 5, 2002 46–1 - R. Kelly and Céline Dion "I'm Your Angel" December 5, 1998 27–1 - The Beatles "Can't Buy Me Love" April 4, 1964 24–1 - Usher "U Remind Me" July 7, 2001 23–1 - Brandy and Monica "The Boy Is Mine" June 6, 1998

Comparing the present day Hot 100 with that which was used on AT40 is like comparing apples and oranges, so different are the chart methodologies and means of compilation.
On AT40 today, songs occasionally jump to #1 from outside the top 5, though it's rare. Last month Iyaz' "Replay" moved from 8 to 1, but that was distorted due to three weeks with no AT40 broadcast; as far as I can tell the 12/12/09 AT40 chart was considered to be "frozen" for four weeks.
