One of the biggest hits of 1985 was "We Are The World" which made people aware of the famine problem which was prevalent in Africa at that time-Fast forward 25 years-Quincy Jones who produced the original version is now at the helm of a remake-According to Monday's edition of USA Today, the proceeds will benefit relief efforts for those victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti-Among the artists scheduled to participate in the new version of "We Are The World " are Smokey Robinson,Jason Mraz, the country duo Sugarland,& Miley Cyrus.

I watched the shortened version of the video that NBC aired prior to their Olympics coverage.
Some footage of Michael Jackson from 1985 is included and Janet Jackson sings with it. Michael was co-writer of the original song so I can see why Quincy Jones wanted to do that; but does anyone else feel as I do that a tribute like that momentarily takes the focus off the real purpose of the song?
Maybe I've become too much of a purist but I really did not care for the hip-hop elements added toward the end. That was then and this is now...I guess!

Remake was great until the Justin Bieber part. Seriously though, I liked the all-star version of "What's Going On" better than this. Though I might not be too impressed with the song, I do hope their charity effort is successful.

I didn't think it was all that bad, but that one guy (Wyclef Jean, I think it is), was just horrible. Nails on a chalkboard sounded better. My ears are still recovering.
