Also, 3/21, which is hosted by Mark Elliott, actually does have differing R&Ds between CT40 and Casey's Countdown! Both shows have "No One is to Blame" first, but Casey's Countdown doesn't have "You're Only Human (Second Wind)" at all - instead, they have two different ones: "Somewhere Out There" is second, and "Daniel" by Wilson Phillips is third.
I checked 3/7 and 3/14, to be sure, and guess what - those have different R&Ds too. Guess they really did experiment with that approach for these shows when Casey's Countdown started...
I'll look through this more thoroughly later on. (This, the beginning of CC's run, is the only time I notice it, so I'm willing to bet it didn't last long.) Or - if someone else reads this and has time to get to it sooner, have at it.
OK, so I did look into this now, and it appears that this practice lasted for the first six months of Casey's Countdown. (A bit longer than I would have guessed, but it still didn't go beyond 1992.)
Here's a breakdown, as good as I can get it -
3/7: Only "Blowing Kisses in the Wind" is in both shows, as the first R&D. The other two are replaced with Kenny Rogers "Through the Years" and Mike & The Mechanics "The Living Years". (The latter is a particularly interesting choice, as it follows "Tears in Heaven" in that show.)
3/14: First R&D is instead Foreigner "I Want to Know What Love Is", and third R&D is instead Sheriff "When I'm With You". (The second is the same in both.)
3/21: GUEST HOST - Mark Elliott. Casey's Countdown doesn't start with Last Week's #1 as CT40 does. Both have Howard Jones "No One is to Blame" as the first R&D, but CC follows it with two instead of one - and neither one is "You're Only Human (Second Wind)". Instead, the two are Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram "Somewhere Out There" and Wilson Phillips "Daniel".
3/28: CASEY'S COUNTDOWN CUE SHEET MISSING
4/4: First R&D is Michael Bolton "When a Man Loves a Woman". The Escape Club's "I'll Be There", replaced on 3/7, is kept this time, while Extreme's "More Than Words", the first R&D on CT40, is the third one here.
4/11: CASEY'S COUNTDOWN CUE SHEET MISSING
4/18: The first two R&Ds from CT40 are used in reverse order here, while the third R&D is instead Bette Midler "Wind Beneath My Wings".
4/25: Again the first two R&Ds from CT40 are switched, and the third R&D is instead Wilson Phillips "Daniel".
5/2: No changes this week! All the R&Ds are the same, and in the same order.
5/9: The second and third R&Ds from CT40 are switched, but otherwise the same three are used in both shows.
5/16: Same story as 5/9.
5/23: Whitney Houston's "Greatest Love of All" is used as the third R&D instead of first, which pushes the other two each forward one place - again, the same three are in both shows.
The Casey's Countdown cue sheet is then missing for the next seven weeks, with one exception.
6/13: The Escape Club's "I'll Be There" is the third R&D instead of the first, while Linda Ronstadt & James Ingram's "Somewhere Out There" is first instead of third. The second R&D, meanwhile, is instead "Can't Cry Hard Enough" by The Williams Brothers.
7/18: No changes this week! All the R&Ds are the same, and in the same order.
7/25: The first R&D is instead Kenny Loggins "Forever", which pushes Bette Midler "Wind Beneath My Wings" and Sa-Fire "Thinking of You" each back one place.
8/1: GUEST HOST - Mark Elliott. Just two R&Ds this week as on CT40, and they're the same two, in the same order.
8/8: The first two R&Ds from CT40 are switched, but otherwise the same three are used in both shows.
8/15: The first R&D is instead Cathy Dennis "Too Many Walls".
8/22: The second R&D is instead Willie Nelson "Always on My Mind". (So yes, "That's What Friends Are For", a multiple-time R&D to this point, gets switched out here.)
8/29: The first R&D is instead James Taylor "You've Got a Friend".
After 8/29, while more often than not the order of the R&Ds will be switched up for Casey's Countdown, the same two or three of them will be used for both shows in a given week.
