I might rejoice if we weren't getting the exact same show from Casey this week. I'll give one thumb up for at least not doing 7/5 yet again. Much as you opined last week, 1980 in any form this week was basically a losing proposition on this side.

Much as you opined last week, 1980 in any form this week was basically a losing proposition on this side. It is certainly a double-edged sword. I just hope next year they don't end up wading around this area again because it gets me nervous. I'm predicting 1988 for next week. I know that particular date was done just three years ago, but it now has the largest gap between plays.

I'm predicting 1988 for next week. I know that particular date was done just three years ago, but the next closest, 1985, will have them repeating Premiere yet again. Uh...no? Premiere's doing 7/12/86 next week.

Either that or I was reading and I didn't check the date. Oops.

Next week's Copycat Casey...1985

Next week's Copycat Casey...1985 Or, not so-"Copycat" Casey, as we hashed out right above. Even though 1988 hasn't been done in longer, 85 is the better choice, as Big 40 hasn't yet done 7/13. Think it will occur to them that Live Aid was on that date? 88 can then go the week after, as 7/23 will also be a new chart here. (10 weeks out from 7/23 will land in repeat territory down the road, but all things considered the best longer-term path for 88 was sunk when 7/2 was denied by them doing 1987 instead last week.)

I would say them doing 1987 that early at least stopped a potential repeat of 7/25, but yeah 1988 can come next. Actually the chart selection the four weeks since that 2019 6/20/81 repeat has been fairly decent. Two new charts and a couple that haven't been played in 7 or so years. I'm hoping this keeps up for the rest of the month.

1989 is a year that doesn't have the particular deficiency this week's 1980 show had, but I hope it next appears in either the last week of July or first two weeks of August, so as to avoid 8/19/89--another in the "no, not again!" file. Also in that file, at least to me, is 9/12/87, which is what we probably would get if we count out 10 weeks from last week.

While it’s not cool we get 7/12/80 from both Sirius XM and Premiere, at least on this one, we get the full version of “Sailing” by Christopher Cross. Premiere almost always cuts the song short and takes out the second lyrics.

Supersized Jo Jo by Boz Scaggs--loving it! When was the last time that song was played on the countdown? It's been featured often in their "treasure chest" segment but we haven't heard it counted down in a while because of the constant 7/5 replays.

Laura, I was comparing it to the version I heard in 1980 when it was played on my local station in Virginia. I also think I have heard it on other countdowns on AT 40 the 80's and I don't think Casey played this longer version.

Its last possible time on a VJ Countdown would be on a 9-7-80 chart, so any countdown from this time in 1980 until 9-7-80.

I also think I have heard it on other countdowns on AT 40 the 80's and I don't think Casey played this longer version. I think they play the longer version on SXM's Yacht Rock Radio. It was probably the first time I heard that version because they would play the shorter version on AT40 as you said. The Fox Oldies also plays the shorter version for their 1980 countdowns, though occasionally Sam would play longer versions of some songs during a particular week so that could happen within the coming weeks. On the flip side, the Big 40 plays the shorter version of "Against The Wind" while Sam plays the longer version. Listening again, I was surprised to hear Nina mentioning Radio & Records before playing "Biggest Part Of Me". It hit #1 on their charts.
