I'll grant that Michael Jackson's death was the top story in music news for 2009; but the astounding breakout of Susan Boyle has to be right up there too! Is anyone suprized that her debut CD has gone through the roof?
My take on the album...GOOD! She is a throwback to traditional pop singing in the vein of Streisand and the like. Maybe not the widest range but smooth and pleasing nonetheless. I've yet to make a comparison listen to the studio version of "I Dreamed A Dream" with the version she did on TV. (I still think the best rendition was the one Ruthie Henshall sang in the Le Miz 10th Anniversary Concert) Her cover of the Jagger/Richards song "Wild Horses" made Billboard's Hot 100 at #98. That's fine! I have no expectations of CHR radio giving massive play. I don't expect to hear much of her on the radio beyond, maybe, Music Of Your Life.
The album's release came too late for the Grammy nominations. I wonder if a year from now it will be remembered.
