Premiere Radio Networks has just announced what the two year end countdowns will be for both "AT40-The 70's" & "AT40-The 80's"-The Top 50 of 1977 & The Top 50 of 1986 will air the weekend of December 26th & 27th.

Looks like the good old days of a year-end Top 100 - even in two parts - are gone.

Sounds pretty stupid to me that they would only air the second part of a two week year end special on Dec 26-27. If they are going to remain date compliant (this week x number of years ago), they'd have to broadcast the second portion of another year end countdown for the week ending January 2-3, 2010.
Premiere probably doesn't want stations to have to play "unfamiliar songs" that they probably consider #51-#100 (played in the first week of the two part year ends) to be. After all, their parent company, Clear Channel, now employees the man that Sirius-XM subscribers remember so well-Jon Zellner.

Well, if you remember, the year enders of the 80s (not sure about the 70s) were ONE week countdowns. The full Top 100, 8 hour show, on 1 weekend.
No mention of Casey returning for a decade end special I guess??

I'll probably listen to the first half earlier in the week as well to get the feel of the full top 100. In addition, if I do a chart critique of it, I'll do the full top 100.

For "AT40: The '70s" last year, Premiere ran the 1971 year-end countdown and that was only one show because AT40 aired the Christmas Countdown back in 1971.
BTW 1977 is a four-hour show. Interesting to hear how Premiere treats this one.

Not sure if I'll listen to the show or not, since I just recently listened to it, back in May. I was kinda hoping they'd do the 1982 show, since that's my favorite of the year-enders of the 1980s.

I believe the "AT40" staff decided not to use the Billboard year end chart for 1977-Instead,they compiled their own rankings.

For "AT40: The '70s" last year, Premiere ran the 1971 year-end countdown and that was only one show because AT40 aired the Christmas Countdown back in 1971. Shannon Lynn posted last year that he has completed the re-master of the Christmas Countdown shows for 1971 and 1973 in very good condition by consuming 120 hours each. But neither show were aired last year. I hope that we would be able to listen either of those shows during the December 19-20 weekend.

Maybe one of the vintage Christmas countdowns will air this year.

IIRC, Premiere ran the 1984 year end show split over two weeks in December 2007, but for 2008 they played only the top 50 for 1980.
The top 50 for 1986 was one of the select shows run ad nauseum when Clear Channel had its AT40 Format Lab station.

For the 1977 countdown, four songs that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 were ranked below the top 50 — incidentally, 51-54. They were Debby Boone's "You Light Up My Life," the Eagles' "New Kid in Town," Meco's "Star Wars Theme/Cantina Band" and Shaun Cassidy's "Da Doo Run Run."
There's only one chart-topping song that we'll miss for 1986 within the top 50: "Invisible Touch" by Genesis, with Phil Collins providing lead vocals.
