I asked this question before, but I didn't get a response, so I decided to put it in my own thread. I read on Rob Durkee's site that Pat Sajak was a finalist to host AT40 after Casey's departure. Other than Pat & Shadoe Stevens, who were the other finalists? I gotta think Charlie Van Dyke was a finalist. He subbed for Casey the most times.

According to Rob's book, the most frequently mentioned finalists, aside from Shadoe and Sajak, were Charlie Van Dyke and Steve Kmetko, then of the E! cable network.
Others who tried out included Ron Reagan, Jr., Donny Osmond (who did guest host for Shadoe once), and Alan Thicke (then on "Growing Pains".)

I don't understand why Charlie Van Dyke wasn't hired, as many times as he subbed. I remember listening to the first Shadoe Stevens show on August 13, 1988 and assuming Shadoe was just filling in for Casey (I missed the beginning of the show, and it had been a while since I had tuned in).

Of course, if you lived in New York City at the time, you wouldn't have known either...WPLJ deleted the "Hall of History" feature that started that show.

Probably not a household name for most of you, but according to a website that talks about Providence radio history, there was an afternoon jock on WPJB (JB-105) in Providence that hosted a local big-35 countdown in the late 70's - early 80's. His name was Brad Pierce and supposedly he auditioned for Casey's job in 1988. Here is the link. pvdradiohistory.blogspot.com/2007/03/wpjb-jb-105-history.html

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe John Tesh also applied and was a finalist. He would have made a good host in my opinion.
