I noticed in last week's AT40: The 80's that the first verse of "Conga" (played as an optional extra) was omitted. I don't think I've ever heard that happen before. I know it was very common for the 2nd verse or the bridge of a song to be removed (for time reasons, I always assumed), but never the first.
Has this happened before?

This was during the CT40 era, but I believe the first verse of "Men In Black" by Will Smith was cut out as it fell down the charts.

Back in the fall of 1986, this regularly happened on "Top 40 Satellite Survey". Even though that chart had 40 songs, it lasted only three hours, so that made heavy editing necessary. One song I remember having the first verse cut out was "Don't Forget Me When I'm Gone". It was a pretty good edit though, only people familiar with the song could tell. After the instrumental intro, the lyrics seemed to start with, "Oooh, if you could see what I could see..."
