They actually left in the Barry Manilow LDD between #28 and #27. Of course, that particular song is from '82.......

For those who like the music of 1971--this was definitely your weekend--not only did SXM and AT40: 1970s cover the year but Dick Bartley's new Classic Countdown show did a spotlight on 1971.
BTW: They did leave "Reason to Believe" in on SXM's broadcast of AT40 (70s on 7) this week.

They actually left in the Barry Manilow LDD between #28 and #27. Of course, that particular song is from '82....... It appears that SXM 8's policy is to keep in LDD's and other extras from the 80s and to delete those from earlier decades. At least that's the only sensible way I can think of to explain what they've been doing lately. In the 9/29/84 show, they played one LDD (Manilow's "Somewhere Down the Road", from 1982) but cut the other (the Carpenters' 70s track "Bless the Beasts and Children.) In the 9/26/81 presentation, they cut four of five extras: the three Archives #1s from 1968 and the first LDD, Leo Sayer's 1977 hit "How Much Love". The second dedication, Donna Summer's "The Wanderer", was a hit in 1980 and was left in. On the other hand, I was pleasantly surprised by the 10/2/71 broadcast; not only were no songs deleted (granted, there was only one extra), but we got the entire 4:50 of "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey".

I listened to the 9/26/81 show-Sirius-XM definitely did an extensive amount of editing-Going forward,I'll only listen to the 80's shows on terrestrial radio.

This weekend on SXM -- Oct. 7, 1978. It's the first 4 hour show. But what's the point if they are going to cut and edit? Please ladies and gentlemen, let's bug the ____ out of SXM and beg for them to stop cutting. This summer, they did a very good job. Now, it's just unlistenable, if that's a word.

Several of us have tried to get them to change but all they do is to say they want the show to flow better or that there are others who don't want to hear all the extras (I wonder if these people even exist, do they want people to stop recording the show, or are they hoping to make people demand the show be taken off so they can bring those awful Sirius countdowns back, etc.). In other words, they don't think we represent the average listener (as defined by those who run SXM)
Probably the only thing that would get them to stop would be if there were enough of us who would cancel our subscriptions, giving their butchering of AT40 as a reason or if someone did something to cause enough others to unsubscribe. In short, the only way they would reconsider is if something happened to cut into their bottom line (money)

Thanks CaseyFan. Here is a response from JJ Walker on the XM 70's show. Yeah, SXM' reason is absurd. Yeah, like there is really someone complaining that, "oh, I can't listen to AT40 because there are too many trivia questions and too many jingles and too many extras." Ridiculous.
Hi Frank,
Thanks for the kind words!
I hear what you're saying about AT40. I don't really know why it is edited as you say. But I will surely bring your concerns to the "powers that be".
That I can do.
Sincerely,
JJ Walker Sirius XM 70s o 7
On Tue, Oct 6, 2009 at 6:59 PM Hi JJ, I love your show. But is there any way you can influence somebody at SXM to stop cutting and editing the AT40 shows with Casey Kasem? Especially this weekend since you mentioned 1978 (The first 4 hour show). Why are they editing and cutting all of a sudden? What's the point? Is this why I paid good money for SXM? If you just want to play the music, then you don't need Casey and just play the 40 songs and that's it. But otherwise, it's not cool to cut and edit. Thanks JJ. Frank in LA

No songs were deleted, but trivia questions were deleted. Jingles were deleted. And the 11 new radio stations that Casey mentioned on this show were deleted on SXM.

The 10/7/78 show had a total of nine extra songs in addition to that week's top 40. I don't know how many we can expect SXM 7 to leave in. Earlier they were willing to run over the three hour mark when presenting countdowns that were originally four hours in length, but given their recent propensity to delete even then-recent songs that were extras, I'm not sure about that.
At least songs #40-#1 won't be chopped up as much as they were in the last days of three hour shows (the recent August and September 1978 rebroadcasts contain plenty of proof of that.)

bring those awful Sirius countdowns back Listening to 80's on 8 now, it appears they've done just that, at least on Friday nights. We won't know 'til Sunday if they're gonna dump AT40 for this, but I have a bad feeling they will. EDIT: Looking at the Sirius 80's on 8 page, it appears that the only place to hear 80's AT40 now is on terrestrial radio.

Hi AT40 Freak:
I checked both the xmradio.com and sirius.com websites. The Sirius website has a Big 40 show hosted by all of the MTV VJs scheduled several times each weekend including 6am (eastern) Sunday. They never say how long Big 40 is or anything like that.
The XM website still has AT40 scheduled for 7am Sunday and Casey as one of the DJs for 80s on 8.
Just checked xmfan and one of the posts says: "Alan Hunter said earlier last evening that along with retiring in real life, Casey's also been retired from the 80's channel. He specifically said he'd still be on the 70's"
I'm going ahead and listen for the show tomorrow and, if I find that Casey's gone, so is my subscription to XM.

October 10, 2009 XM 70s on 7 is playing 10/07/78 As usual, this one was a disappointment!! No full split-logo jingles, no teasers, no end-of-hour or end-of-show themes, they even left out the "Archives" segments spotlighting the Number 1 hits of the '70s. They did keep all but one 0f the 0ther "Extras" ("Till I Kissed Ya", a pre-70s hit, g0t the boot), and the LDD was intact. But still, if they keep this editing up, I'll just have to say "no, just no" to AT40 on SXM.

One of the two LDD's was played (John Denver's "Sunshine On My Shoulders"; Coven's "One Tin Soldier" was the deleted other dedication.) As to extras, as mentioned, "Til I Kissed Ya" and the three 1970 Archives were cut (this was the first show with the chronological "Archives" feature), while the 1976-77 hits "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", "Dreams", and "You Light Up My Life" were left in.
So that's 4 for 9 when it comes to extras; actually a bit better than I was expecting, but still not what we'd like. And that doesn't count the deleted jingles, teasers, etc.
