YOU BETTER YOU BET The replay of 4/11/81 tonight (Sunday) did include The Who's "You Better You Bet." It's too bad they have to use the replay to make up for errors, but at least they do that much!
POPS in STREAMING SOUND Yes, I've noticed the break in the sound occasionally, too. It's worse on the '70s on 7. It's a quick little pop or skip. Very annoying. (I use the xm online player in Safari on a mac with the windows media converter. It could be the player, but I noticed it started when they started the 128k streaming. Before that it was a low quality stream, but at least it didn't have the pops!) Does anyone else use xmonline?

Well, the XM AT40 editing gremlin is at it again. During today's broadcast of the show from April 14, 1979 (which is another REPEAT by the way), at the end of #28, Casey said "Ever wonder what recording stars make?" Then, SXM played their "Seventies on 7 jingle," then the audio cut to Casey answering his question about how much an artist can make on album sales, record sales, writing credit, and touring. Then XM played song #27, then Casey said, "Now let's answer that question about how much money a recording artist can make." Then song #26 started. It is hard for me to understand how it can be so hard for XM to just play the show in the correct order (including Casey's commentary) unedited. Is it hopeless to expect that? I remember they screwed up a February 1987 broadcast in the same way. Of it I wrote, "Casey says that "now we're up to one of two remakes in the countdown" referring to Corey Hart's cover of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love"--but XM ran this AFTER playing Corey's record!" Also there was the January 1976 show when they ran a long story about "The Sounds of Silence" which was an extra that week, but then didn't play the song. Since there was at least half an hour left of the show's three hour block, they couldn't have been that pressed for time. (OTOH, they were generous enough to play the entire 4/14/79 show, extras and all, even though it ran a bit over three hours.) About the overlooking of late 70s shows on XM for a while, one possible factor may be that there may be fewer remastered ones available. As Shannon Lynn has pointed out on here, the disco music that was so prevalent at the time is the most difficult to remaster.

AT 40 on 70s XM today - Casey says we're going back to 1977 this week, then they play April 20, 1974 (same as Premiere this week?)

AT 40 on 70s XM today - Casey says we're going back to 1977 this week, then they play April 20, 1974 . . . I think is is the fault of the SXM editor, not Casey. Still pretty goofy, though, especially when the SXM D.J. (Jay Thomas) said ten minutes before the show started that Casey will play a show from 1974.

While XM plays a lot of shows that have been run by Premiere, this is the first time in the four months I've had XM when they've played the exact same countdown the same weekend as Premiere. At least I guess I can sleep in tomorrow morning, or listen to the whole contemporary top 40 without interruption. Lately I've often had two radios going at once on Sunday mornings, with Casey Kasem 1970s on one and Ryan Seacrest 2009 on the other.

I heard it, and was for 1974....don't really pay much attention to it, until it hits the air on SXM....then we know which one it si for sure...

Yeah, flipped it on when I was doing errands in the car....I guess nothing is available for the first weekend in may for the 70's?
the al kasha/joel hirchhorn story on writing hit songs was interesting...as "The Morning After" was one of my favs from the 70's, one of two disaster movie songs (poseidon adventure) that he won academy awards for, the other was "We May Never Love Like This Again" both with Maureen Mcgovern. I remember reading how he wrote his first one over a weekend.
Also ironic, winning awards after what I vaguely remember him being credited for writing the theme for what is considered the worst sitcom produced in TV history "The Trouble With Tracy" a canadian sitcom produced to tape circa 1970. I just remember watching the credit crawl as a kid and seeing kasha/herchhorn credited and it stuck with me. I really should try to research it more to confirm, but I'm pretty sure...
These retro shows are getting me back into being a fan of the show...I was hard core in the 80's, writing to watermark and everything...autographed pic from casey, free sample show and brochure, they were pretty decent to me. I don't think I'll ever be super hard core ever again, but certainly do respect those who are and the casey years.

Ooh, this is a good one.
They cut out the previous week's top 3. I can't listen to any more of it this afternoon, so can someone post as to whether any other abrupt edits are made? Thanks.
