Strange that Get Back (1969) by the Beatles was featured as an extra, while in the original show it was Paperback Writer (1966) (both former #1 hits during June of their respective years). Update--Paperback Writer shifted to hour #3 , following Bridge Over Troubled water by Aretha Franklin (#10). I would prefer that SiriusXM play the shows the way they were originally presented. When this show aired from Premiere in 2022 "Get Back" was played, with "Paperback Writer" shifted as well.

Ah, that explains it--I thought SiriusXM didn't get their episodes from Premiere (obviously, not the case). Back in the XM only days, shows came directly from Shannon Lynn.

I found it strange that Casey mentioned that "Paperback Writer" was the #1 record of 5 years ago on this day on a 6-12-71 show. In fact, it didn't hit #1 until 6-25-66. Oooppps Casey. Yes. The actual #1 the matching week in '66 (w/e 6/11/66) was "Paint It, Black" by the Stones for the first of two weeks.

As just one recent other example Thursday night's "Wheel of Casey" show from 10/16/76 was word for word (edit for edit) identical to the edited version offered by Premiere.

For those subscribers interested, Dave Hoeffel on the ''60s Gold' channel has just started this week's ''60's Satellite Survey' from the week ending June 27, 1970. This is two weeks prior to the very first AT40 broadcast. Currently on #38 (Sly taking us 'higher'), just played John Phillips and Crabby Appleton. This show will repeat tomorrow morning and again on Wednesday evening.

Two more extras included were Pat Boone's "Moody River" (1961) and Gogi Grant's "The Wayward Wind" (1956), both #1 that week in their respective years. Like "Paperback Writer", both were included but not in their original positions. While Sirius XM sometimes deletes original AT40 extras, it's rare that they would add one ("Get Back"), and one that isn't even from the 1970s although very well known.

I understand that Sirius/XM policies and standards prevent this, but if AT40 has a substantial following on their 70s channel, where’s the harm in including sponsor ads from the 1970 and 1971 shows? If warranted, a disclaimer could be used prior to the program’s start…
“Although Sirius/XM presents commercial free programming 24/7, for today’s American Top 40 countdown, network commercials that were presented during its original airing are included. We believe these advertisements enhance our listeners experience as it relates to this AT40 broadcast.”

Yes, I remember that. But I believe the vintage spots on Sirius/XM, with its no ads policy, may better accent an early 1970s reflection.

To immerse their listeners in the entire experience of the decade they should playing vintage commercials, teasers, newscasts, etc. not just during AT40 but everyday. They don't have to hit folks in the head with them, but a few here and there would be nice.

And the 1970-1971 AT40 national commercials were mostly for Certs, Dentyne, and plugs for MGM records and mail order albums from the Crusin' series and the American Top 40 Double Dozen record album set.
