Jan. 6-7, 2024: Now let’s go back to this week in 1971 - Englebert Humperdinck - January 2, 1971 (Top 80 of 1970) Part 1 When Casey played the Top 80 of 1970, he may have played some songs he had never played on AT40, (songs from before AT40 came on the air in 1970), correct? That is true. Some of them we heard on SXM’s 60s countdown last week, which was from the first weekend of 1970. This weekend’s AT40 was just labelled “1/2/71” as if it were a regular weekly chart (unlike the 1977 year end show played the last two weekends of December, which was clearly identified as such). I assume next week will be “1/9/71”, which is to say the second half of the 1970 year end show, though four straight weeks of year end countdowns is too much IMO.

Most definitely. Close to half the songs in that top 80 had not been played on AT40 previously.

Sure wish I could write to the address given out by Casey to get my copy of the Top 80 of 1970! As I did while listening to this show 54 years ago. That one 'disappeared' sometime in the '80s, along with the similar Top 40 of '71/Top 40 Christmas Songs list from the following year. I've gotten rid of quite a few things I later wish I'd kept.

The assumption is that next week will be the second half, however this being Sirius, it's very possible that it will be some other early January show from the 70's.

If that was their intent, I would have rather heard Part 2 as in songs #40 thru 1. The middle of the decade would be a great place to start 2024, as in 1974, 1975 or 1976.

Not I. #s 80-41 had some great rarely-heard songs, including some from the pre-AT40 half of 1970. Frijid Pink's 'freakout'/fuzztone take on "House Of the Rising Sun" being a perfect example.

It would be strange to have a countdown for a weekly show and play 21 thru 40, and not the Top 20. That was my intent.

In checking back through the previous years on this thread, it does not appear that Sirius has ever just played half of a year end show.

In checking back through the previous years on this thread, it does not appear that Sirius has ever just played half of a year end show. Based on the various posts I've read on here the last few days, many stations have been airing incomplete shows (like airing one half of 1978, and another half of 1972, for example), and above is yet another. What is up with all that? Reminds me of the AT40 year-end for 2002. My local station aired part 1 when they were supposed to, then on the weekend part 2 was supposed to air, they did a fan request that took up the whole slot. Needless to say, I was really disappointed and reached out to the station. But no dice. The following weekend, the first show of 2003 played, and for many years, I didn't even know how the top 50 of 2002 played out. Thankfully, I found a site with the lists (AT40 didn't have this until many years later), and I now have the full show. Incomplete shows suck!

Has Sirius XM ever done four weeks of year end countdowns previously? Just seems strange that December 23, 30, and January 6 and now likely 13 are year end countdowns?
