They're playing Nov 17, 1973 on AT40 on Sirius XM 70s on 7 for the 11am (Central) Sat Nov 15 broadcast now (started 5 minutes early, playing #40 by Barry White right now)

Today on 8: 11/14/81.
That's a good one. Although, I'm still holding out for a November or December 1985.

They're playing Nov 17, 1973 on AT40 on Sirius XM 70s on 7 for the 11am (Central) Sat Nov 15 broadcast now (started 5 minutes early, playing #40 by Barry White right now) I laughed at the end when Casey, upon finding that his prediction of that week's #1 was wrong said, "Why don't we skip the prediction this week? That way we won't blow it." And so ended the year long experiment in predicting the next week's chart topper.

It probably was best that Casey Kasem ended his weekly #1 picks. After all there were 70 songs that went to #1 for the next two years (1974-'75).
Btw I may have asked this on a previous thread but does anybody on this group keep a weekly account of Casey's #1 picks whether they were right or wrong?

According to Rob Durkee's book, it was 22 right, 24 wrong. I've only heard about five or six of those shows so I don't know most of the weekly guesses.
But to correct something I said before, there were a few more predictions made over the next month. Casey's last guess was a correct one: Charlie Rich's "The Most Beautiful Girl" in December 1973.

This week the AT40 show on XM 70s on 7 is Nov 23, 1974. If you miss the show today (11am Central), you can catch it again on Sun morning (8am) or 11pm Sunday nite (assuming they do like they did last week and do the same countdown 3 times)
I miss John Clay, the former PD of the 70s on 7 who was laid off due to the recent music channel merger. He is a strong supporter of American Top 40 being on XM and was always diligent about making sure that we knew the date of the upcoming shows a week or two in advance. The current people in charge post nothing whatsoever and even the display on Direct TV and the XM receiver that I have , shows nothing but "AT40 '74". Hopefully this will change in the near future. When John was in charge, the entire date of the show would be shown along with the song playing at the time.

Also, the XM website originally had the AT40 show from November 17, 1979 scheduled for this weekend. I was SO looking forward to hearing that one!!!! I liked more songs on that one than on the one they're playing right now from 1974. I hope this is not a sign of not-so-good things to come as far as the future of AT40 on Sirius XM. It's bad enough that they are clipping end-of-hour themes, now it seems like they will pull a Premiere on us and limit their AT40 shows to the three-hour broadcasts, shutting out 1979, and possibly late 1978. Not being able to see what song is playing as it is playing also irks the you-know-what out of me!!!! Hopefully, they will be correcting all of these situations in the weeks to come.

I would think it's too early to assume that we won't get any 4-hour 70s shows. But I do miss Clay's diligence (I've given up hoping to find out what 80s show is being played).

Well, since they are all one service, they are probably both getting the same error.

Hey Vto:
Got a very pleasant surpise this morning from Sirius XM. The rebroadcast of AT40 today showed up on my radio with the full title of the song, the artist, and the CHART POSITION. Still no exact date, but maybe a change for the better. I'll mention this on xmfan as well.
Wonder if one of us emailed them--if so a BIG THANKS!!
John
