I was in a restaurant last weekend that was streaming SiriusXM 70's, and it happened to be during the time that AT40 was on. It was rather unexpected to hear Casey's voice in the background while eating lunch.

October 7, 1978 this week. Premiere may not have chosen to air the first four hour AT40 on its 40th anniversary, but Sirius XM did.

And then in SXM's "infinite wisdom" they cut out the Archive song (the first #1 of the 1970s). This was the first show to feature the Archives of the #1s of the 1970s . . . except on SXM I guess.

^^ That’s because the early #1’s Of The 70’s were hold overs from 1969 and they won’t play those on SXM. Can you imagine what would happen if someone tuned in to hear the 70’s and heard something from the 60’s? There’d be chaos in the streets!!

WTF?! "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head" by BJ Thomas is from one of the most timeless westerns ever, 1969's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid!

This week's show: October 23, 1971. Yes! I was hoping for this one. Cross-referencing this chart with Cash Box for the same week, I notice that there's one record moving #66 to #29 and another moving #67 to #24. In Record World, they both debut, the first at #40, the second at #47. That's all. Don't want to spoil it.

Gee, those two singles wouldn't be the highest debuting songs on the 40 Casey was talkin' about--would they? By the way, I hate when they do this but they faded out Theme from Shaft by Isaac Hayes (which has a cold ending)-Grrr. I always wondered why they always didn't just fade a couple of other songs on the countdown a few seconds early so they wouldn't have to do that to a song that has a definite ending.
