Ahh, the 'fake' Top 40 on SiriusXM. I love the way that Casey doesn't let on that the AT40 staff 'estimated' the chart until the end of the show. If you listen to the show, there is no mention of Billboard magazine until the credits at the end because they couldn't say it was the Billboard list because it wasn't. Between Premiere's 6/9/73 show and Sirius XM this week that's two AT40's we've heard this month that used charts that ultimately were wrong or weren't ever issued by Billboard.

This week’s show is the July 1979 disco special. Yippee (By the way, I never turned off an AT40 countdown so fast).

This week’s show is the July 1979 disco special. Yippee for real! No sarcasm here. Catching the top 12 in the car. "The Hustle" was a great choice for a last-hour extra. What an orchestral arrangement.

Loved the Disco special! However, did anyone catch the mistake Casey made? He said it had been six years since the Rolling Stones had a #1 record prior to "Miss You." Did he forget about "Angie" in October 1973? Actually, that would have been slightly less than 5 years!

Let us not forget that this is also the week of the infamous Townsand Coleman AT40 show. For those that don’t know, a station in Cleveland hated disco and refused to air the special. So instead, they counted down the Top 40 for the week. Hosted by their own DJ Towsand Coleman. They used the actual AT40 bumpers and format, I think they even did a listener question. Of course this show was not legit and they were told not to do it again, but it’s an interesting show. They used many extended versions of the songs which made for an interesting show to say the least. Also interesting is that Donna Summer’s “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff” we’re back to back on the chart so they played the 12” mix of the songs which blend into each other anyhow.

Other than the replay of the last week's top 3 there were no extras, so extended versions were needed to fill time. I wonder if said listener question was sent directly to Coleman or the station, or they just either asked and answered it themselves or repeated something from a Casey show. At least they didn't try to contrive or repeat any Long Distance Dedications. (I'm going off the playlist as listed at Old Radio Shows; I've never heard this actual show.) Of course, counting down the top 40 in early July 1979 still meant playing about 15 or so disco songs (three of them twice), but apparently they would rather have played 15 of them than 40. Incidentally, the station in question was WGCL 98.5 FM in Cleveland. It was a top 40 station from 1972-86, and is now classic rock WNCX.

July 15, 1972 this week. (Again? Didn't we get 1972 from them just under a month ago?)

I always wondered if the full length version of Layla ever played on AT40--now I know. Cool.

Was thinking that this yet another SXM lightly edited show. Then along comes a tease about a party at Hollywood strip club. As Casey intros the story he says “And now from our it could only come from Hollywood stories, so the manager ripped the bill and gave it to each of the ladies, here’s War at #16 with “Why Can’t We Be Friends”. That is some REALLY bad editing! If you’re going to edit a story, edit the entire thing, tease and all.

Does anyone know why this date of July 19, 1975 was recorded in mono? It wouldn't have been originally recorded in mono...might have to do with either the remastery process or SXM's streaming of it. More than likely it's the latter of those two.

I listened to Premiere's presentation of 7/26/80 this morning on my local station, KOLA 99.9, then switched over to SiriusXM 70s on 7 for 7/29/78. In both shows they used the same exact stretch story about the Rolling Stones and their bad boy reputation. The songs, respectively, were "Emotional Rescue" (#11 in 1980) and "Miss You" (#3 in 1978).
