This is so weird, the other day I was listening to a countdown from 1982 and Casey tells the story of Marvin Gaye's numerous duet partners for his intro to "Sexual Healing". The I was listening to a show from 1977, where again he tells the story of Marvin Gaye's numerous duet partners while intro-ing "Got To Give It Up". Today in this show he again mentions the duet partners for his intro to "Let's Get It On". Clearly this is a story that the AT40 staff liked. Odd though that the last three shows I've listened to have all featured this story. Almost as bad as hearing consecutive shows that used "Through The Years" as a LDD.

On this week's show Casey made an odd statement, in the introduction to "The Morning After" he said "Here's a song that wasn't a hit until after it was released, way after it was released...." Well aren't ALL songs hits after they are released? How many were hits before they were released? Pretty sure he meant that the song had been released the previous year but did not become a hit until it was used in "The Poseidon Adventure" and won the Oscar for Best Song. It was not an instant 'out of the box' hit, but took a long time to become a hit after it was released as a single.

On a sidenote, I believe Marvin Gaye holds the record for teaming up with the same person the most times on a duet, not counting regular duos. He and Tammy Terrell sang on something like five or six top 40 hits. Next in line I believe is Beyoncé and Jay Z.

Not to be irrelevant with AT40 on SXM but is it just me, or are we starting to see some expansion on the 70s channel playlist? I believe they are slowly adding more songs to the playlist to the point that this channel is more listenable than before.

As an XM subscriber since 2003, I think you can't take one of these special week ends as a sign that they are returning to the 'good old days' of deeper playlists. Of course, one can hope that I am wrong--but I will say that I really only listen to the 70's on 7 for Casey.

They left the listener question in this week. Have they relented and decided to start keeping them in or did they let the interns whose job it is to edit the show go home early for the holidays? Good point, considering the benchmark for the longest stay in the top 100 didn't last too long after that -- Paul Davis broke it with 40 weeks.

They're selecting tracks from those records and mixing them together.

Nice, hopefully they go back to announcing the year before airing it.

They're selecting tracks from those records and mixing them together. What they did was play (supposedly) every K-Tel album that was released in the 1970's. For the most part they played all of the songs in order from each album. There were a few that had songs cut because they were from 1969. I listened for awhile on Sunday and it was good, played some of the albums that I remembered from when I little. I recorded much of day Monday, but it was almost entirely disco. Was not great. The concept though was very cool.

The little station IDs that they played during the AT40 show this past weekend were about a "Celebrating the Summmer" weekend, and not about the "Remembering KTEL" albums. I think they rebroadcast a show that they have played in the past, when the edits were less... instrusive.
