Good catch on the Gerry Goffin mention on AT40. Also, off topic, I love the record on your profile. I remember hearing "Cool Aid" for the first time on AT40 in 1971. Turns out my dad liked it as well and he went out and got it. It was great hearing it earlier this year on AT4070s.

They seem to be playing the shows in order by year lately. Three weeks ago it was 1971, then '72, '73 and now '74. I'm guessing next week will be '75 (just going out on a limb here). And they just played '74 a month again. They must not like the late 70's shows much, they avoid them like the plague. Well, they played 1977 three times since mid-March, and 1978 in Jan, Feb, and March, though not in the last three months. 1979 hasn't been played since early April, so they're also due for that (and they won't cut off the first hour.)

This is monumentally huge, in the intro to "The Loco-Motion" they kept in the snippet of the Little Eva original! I'm guessing they couldn't find where they could get a clean edit, but even so this is MAJOR huge thing for SXM!

Just as I predicted, they played 1975 this week, next week should be 7/4/76 to keep the trend going, but that was the 40 Years of #1 July 4th songs, so that won't be played, 7/2/77 was the Top 40 Girls of the rock era so that won't be played, so maybe they jump up to the 7/1/78 show (Top Acts of the 70's).

Of the AT40 specials played on July 4th weekends in the 1970s, only the 1974 and 1978 Top Acts of the 70s and the 1979 disco special are likely to be played by SXM, as the others all had a lot of songs from previous decades. They could also do regular shows from 1970 (the debut, of course) or 1971.

Today (July 4th) at noon: the 1978 Top Acts of the 1970s special. A regular show will probably follow this weekend.

The 1978 Top Acts of the 1970s special seems more accurate than the 1974 version. For example:
7/6/74 TOP 40 ACTS OF THE 70'S SO FAR
30: BREAD 21: ROBERTA FLACK 17: CARLY SIMON
7/1/78 TOP 40 ACTS OF THE 70'S SO FAR
32: CARLY SIMON 28: ROBERTA FLACK 23: BREAD
Bread was #30 on the 1974 chart & #23 on the 1978 chart despite only having one top 40 single in 5 years. Acts like Carly Simon & Roberta Flack had more chart success between July 1 1974 & 1978, which indicates Bread was probably under ranked in 1974.

And for the regular presentation: June 30, 1979.

I really like the late 70's shows (as well as the early 80's shows, but SXM doesn't play those, wish they did). This weeks show (1979) brings back tons of childhood memories. I was 8 this week in 1979. We used to put my older sisters stereo speakers in the windows all summer long while we were outside playing (kids used to actually go outside back then!) The songs on this weeks countdown were the soundtrack to my summer. Good times indeed.

This weeks show is a great one and roughly when I started listening to the radio. I was seven and two of the very first 45's I ever got were on this weeks chart, "Hot Blooded" (which my first 45) and "Grease" which my older sister also bought, but I wanted my own copy. "It's A Heartache" also on the chart this week, loved the song but never got the 45.
