So what exactly were the Temps 'protesting' on "I Can't Get Next To You" and "Psychedelic Shack"? OK, Casey, sure--'4 protest songs in a row'. In another stretch of the facts, Eric Burdon only led two versions of The Animals, not three as he stated before "Spill the Wine": The first group of Animals lasted from "House Of the Rising Sun" in mid-'64 through most of 1966. Organist Alan Price left in '65, and another member in early '66, but the rest of the group stayed intact. After that phase of the band split up in late '66, Burdon organized a second group of Animals, which lasted until late 1968, with some personnel changes (including future Police-man Andy Summers joining the group not long before it dissolved). Before those, "Cloud Nine", "Runaway Child, Running Wild", and "Don't Let the Joneses Get You Down" can all be considered socially conscious songs, but maybe not protest songs per se. "Psychedelic Shack" refers to a type of hippie nightclub which was certainly an up to date topic at the time, but not really protest, and "I Can't Get Next To You" was a straightforward love song, though with a funkier arrangement than their previous romantic hits with all five taking a turn at the lead. But "Ball of Confusion" was arguably the only real "protest" song of the group. All these share the common thread of being Norman Whitfield compositions and productions.

I'm assuming that the completely re-written intro to Bill Withers' "Ain't no Sunshine" at #5 in this week's "Wheel" from 10/2/1971 was a Ken Martin production. He (or someone) copied the entire song intro for #26 in the show from June 3, 1972 and used that June `72 intro to replace the actual intro Casey gave for #5 on 10/2/71. Why are such changes necessary??

Why are such changes necessary?? Speaking of intros, this airing contained a notable SXM goof in that after the usual spin-the-wheel intro, we heard Englebert Humperdinck welcome us back to "this week in 1971", nearly two months too early.

This weekend's AT40 is from 1974, for the first time since the beginning of April. 8/10/74, presumably. A chart that, presaging the 'revolving door' at #1 that would follow "Having My Baby", has no less than seven future #1s on it, including that Paul Anka song. Plus the current #1 and the previous 3.

8/10/74 was two days after Richard Nixon resigned the presidency of the United States.

8/10/74 was two days after Richard Nixon resigned the presidency of the United States. Which made part of the song at #40 (final week on the 40) somewhat superfluous...

Same show as Premiere's 'B', 8/13, or the more date-aligned 8/20? Guess we'll find out Saturday.

Would this be the first time that Sirius XM and AT 40 the 70's had the exact same show featured? I know that in the past they both have done the same year, but they were different weeks.

The last time 1977 was played was on 7-8-23, and XM played 7-9-77. It is possible to avoid duplication of AT 40 the 70's, that they go with 8-13-77. Of course over on the 80's, VJ Countdown, duplication does occur with AT 40 the 80s. Just saying......
