Presumably July 21, 1973, which at least isn't overplayed by Premiere, who have only aired it once, 12 years ago.

15,16,17 Good to hear 1974, and that year hasn't been played since the 3-9-74 episode, so all the songs featured today would not have charted back then. 2021 - 15 weeks between 1974 shows The year for this weekend's show that hasn't played the longest is 1974--last played in May! 2022 - 16 weeks between 1974 shows It has really been a long time since 1974 has played! 2023 - 17 weeks since previous 1974 show Do we get July 27, 1974 this weekend?

What does XM have against 1974?

What does XM have against 1974? This is just a guess, but maybe 1974 originally had been scheduled on XM for the weekend of 1-2 July when they decided to air their "Top 1000" show instead.

By the way, for those missing a 1974 show--I just posted a Rewind Countdown featuring the Top 40 from Record World; maybe that will satisfy everyone until Premiere or SiriusXM plays one soon.

If so it was presumably June 29, 1974, with the chart that the staff "guessed" due to time constraints stemming from Casey's forthcoming absence for an acting role. Ultimately only three of the guessed positions matched the actual Billboard chart (one was putting the recently deceased Gordon Lightfoot at #1 with "Sundown"), and they ended up playing ZZ Top a year before they actually made the top 40 by thinking "La Grange" would reach the countdown when it actually peaked at #41.

I never understood the concept of the 'guesstimated' chart--why not just have a guest host with the 'real' Billboard chart. I am sort of surprised that Casey was OK with the idea of a made up show; perhaps this was a cost saving measure.

This is a plausible explanation. What would happen to our 1974 fans if SiriusXM has 1974 lined up for Labor Day weekend, and they decide to have special programming that weekend which would preclude a ‘74 show yet again? I can hear ‘74 fans now, “Noooooooooooooooooooooo!”
