On oldies stations today I hear MTAW as much as BeeGees three 'Fever #1s. In contrast I almost never hear their three chart toppers from Spirits Having Flown. On SXM's 70's on 7 (which could almost be the Bee Gees Channel) they play "Tragedy" and "Too Much Heaven" quite a bit in addition to the SNF monsters.

Two more of my all-time favorite songs by the Bee Gees, Tragedy and Too Much Heaven, their other #1 song from that particular soundtrack not so much!

Shaving Cream is playing now--I can picture a group of guys at a bar drinking and singing to the song! I never heard this song until I heard it on AT40 years ago when April/May 1975 was featured.

Appropriate that "Hey Won't You Play..." is #1 on this countdown to honor the recently departed B.J. Thomas.

The interesting thing about this Benny Bell song is that it charted higher on Billboard (#30), than it did on Cash Box (#34) or Record World (#40). Reportedly, at the time, CB & RW only based their charts on singles sales, which I woulda thought have been better than any radio airplay the song would achieve. Whod'a thunk it?!

I would have definitely bought the record if my station in Norfolk, Virginia WQRK FM had played the song--just so cool. I have attempted to rhyme other words with "it" sounds such as bit, wit, lit, etc., to extend the song's length!

When I was little we had a K-Tel album called “Looney Tunes” which had “Shaving Cream” on it, but it was by The Hustlers. I don’t know if it was just a sound a like or what, seems finding info on this version is somewhat difficult.

My guess would be that the Hustlers were a studio sound-a-like group that kept K-Tel from having to pay for a master of the original 'hit' version of that novelty tune. I recall buying a few K-Tel LP's back in the '70's & '80's, and there were usually one or two songs that weren't hits mixed in with the Top 10's.

Great story about Casey making like Gene Krupa on the drums in his high school band and getting kicked off of it. Right before "Walking In Rhythm" at #10, which was produced by Casey's fellow Detroit HS band member, Donald Byrd.

Appropriate that "Hey Won't You Play..." is #1 on this countdown to honor the recently departed B.J. Thomas. Yeah, B.J. Thomas died almost one year or 11 months ago, May 29th, 2021.

This year is really passing quickly, seemed like it was just a few months ago--thanks for telling me. Too bad that there was no AT 40 when his monster hit was #1 for four weeks, but at least it was played as the first archive hit for former #1s.

If 1979 is played next week, it will mark each year eligible (71 to 79) played twice this year. This depends on whether or not Premiere features 79 as an "A" or "B" show.
