Movie director John Hughes passed away on Thursday at the age of 59-Cause of death was a heart attack-During the 1980's & 1990's,Hughes directed a series of films that were aimed primarily at a teenage audience-That would include "Sixteen Candles","The Breakfast Club","Pretty In Pink",& "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"-Those last three movies generated a few top 40 hits:"Don't You Forget About Me" by Simple Minds,came from "Breakfast Club" & went to #1 in 1985,"If You Leave" by OMD was from "Pretty In Pink" and reached the top 10 in 1986-Finally,the Beatles' "Twist & Shout" was heard on the soundtrack of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"-As a result,that song was re-released & returned to the top 40 in the fall of 1986.

"If You Leave" peaked at number 4, while the re-release if "Twist and Shout" got as high as #23. There was also another song from "Pretty In Pink", the title song by The Psychedelic Furs which missed the top 40.

One musical moment from a Hughs film that springs to my mind is the playing of The Drifters' version of "White Christmas" in "Home Alone". Sort of a re-discovery of that cover.
