It's too bad that WODS has decided to discontinue the weekly podcasts of "AT40-The 70's"-My wife & I used to listen to them each Sunday.

Not yet-- on their site it states "American Top 40 - The 70's with Casey Kasem
Every Sunday Night from 12midnight - 3am! We are no longer allowed to podcast American Top 40.
Tune in to hear the legendary voice of Casey Kasem bring you the American Top 40 from the 1970's. American Top 40 began on the Independence Day weekend in 1970. The program was hosted by Casey Kasem and co-created by Kasem. Make sure to listen each week and hear what songs were hot on the charts during that week in the 70's... Now, on with the countdown!"

I just signed an AT40: The 70's contract today so I can state that it specifically allows Internet streaming so that shouldn't be a problem. I am only familiar with one music show forbidding Internet streaming. That show is Dr. Demento. They are really picky about it. They actually actively enforce it which is such a shame because with that show being on so few stations, they should be trying to get all the listeners they can get.
As for what WODS was doing, podcasting their weekend shows... I've never seen any syndicator specifically allowing that. Whoever made that decision was probably seeing if they could get by with it and hoping no one would notice.

I was personally shocked when I learned through this board about 5 weeks or so ago that it was being podcast by WODS. I am not in the industry, yet I could think of around 4-5 reasons why this would be an issue. However, since many people now possess the software that can save and burn streamed shows, it wouldn't surprise me if these shows reappear elsewhere on the web in the near future.

Look, without naming names, I have heard of people who have attempted to do just that, specifically with Casey's shows.
The sites where they stored them were reportedly contacted, by Premiere or someone representing them, and told in no uncertain terms to remove whatever Casey material they had, or face copyright infringement action.
If there are still folks doing this, they've found a way to prevent Premiere from finding them, and they're not going to let on about it to anyone they can't absolutely trust.

MikeSchwartz, to JasonWQMA, in part:
Is one of them having to license the music? I understand the DMCA has particular rules pertaining to the storage of pre-recorded programs, and to their interactivity... That was mentioned to me by someone off these boards.

Well it was nice to have had it while it lasted. When I first saw the show posted on their on-demand page I was delighted but had a funny feeling that it was too good to last! I especially enjoyed being able to hear it in the overnight hours when WOGL used to air/stream it.
It's a relief to know, from the above post by JasonWQMA, that Premiere is cool with live streaming. (FOR NOW) I probably shouldn't say this but I've gotton so accustomed to listening to the show online on Saturdays that when it airs locally on Sunday I'm kind of in-and-out of it! Jason mentioned The Dr. Demento Show forbidding stations from streaming. The reason for that is because they offer pay-to-stream shows on their website. They resorted to that after losing ALL national advertizers and they have so few stations anymore that carriage fee is just not enough to sustain! Last November, the station I heard Dr. D. on for 16 years had to drop it over the streaming issue.
Let's face it...it's all about what Pink Floyd sings about in the #18 song on AT40 8/4/73.

I'm a avid listener to "The Dr.Demento Show"-It isn't on in Southwestern Connecticut where I live-For the last few years,I was fortunate enough to hear the show on stations that offer internet streaming-However,Talonian Productions, the Doctor's syndicator, demanded that the affiliates discontinue streaming or they wouldn't receive the show anymore-That's why the list of affiliates has shrunk-I'm currently a member of the DOC (Demento Online Club) & I get to hear the latest show every week.

The difference obviously being the cease and desist letter from the attorneys representing Premiere. likely...and westwood one, who is the syndicator for the other shows has no problem with it. It's unfortunate, as I was pulling them down from WODS myself, but I'll live. I was surprised that any station actually has done this. In the not too distant past, most of these shows used to say "must be destroyed after broadcast" on the show program discs. They were disposable. With the nostaglia factor of the AT40 countdowns, it's certainly got folks looking at some of the other shows produced. It's gotten me to watch ebay and dig into my syndicated show collection to dub stuff for my ipod.

Snarf Dude-It's obvious that folks like yourself,Pete Battistini,Scott Lakefield,& Rob Durkee, are collectors of the classic "AT40" countdowns-There's nothing wrong with that-As they say, everyone needs a hobby.
