I wonder what will be the first song to hit #1 that debuted in the top 20 after july 4, 2009. I think it will be a race between Colbie Caillat and Taylor Swift and it is going to happen in about a month or so. I predict it'll be Kings of Leon, and if it is, it'll be a strange coincidence as the song at the bottom of the chart the week after Casey's departure would be the first #1 that he didn't introduce on the chart.  In 1988 when Casey left AT40, the first song Shadoe played on his first AT40 was "Don't Worry, Be Happy", and it would end up becoming the first #1 that Casey didn't introduce. Interesting; if Matt Nathanson's "Come On Get Higher" tops the Mediabase AC list (it's currently at #4) then the same thing would happen again in a strictly numerical sense, as it was #10 on the first post-AT10 chart. However, it's not quite the same in that it actually moved down a notch that week from #9 before rebounding, so Casey did count it down. BTW, this coincidence didn't repeat itself after Casey's second departure from AT40. Britney Spears' "Toxic" was the first Ryan Seacrest-era #1 that Casey never introduced, and it didn't debut until AT40's fourth show with its new host. |
