It just occurred to me that Casey's retirement from counting down the hits has taken on a whole new meaning. With the death of Michael Jackson, in addition to Casey's retirement, it definitely is the end of an era. Who would have thought that both events would occur at the same time? It's kind of weird that both of these events are happening at the same time. It feels that Casey and Michael are connected with one another. For example, Michael had his first hit toward the end of 1969 with "I Want You Back" with the Jackson 5, and American Top 40 debuted on July 4, 1970. Over the years, Casey played many of Michael's hits both as a member of the Jackson 5 and solo, and it seems like they were joined at the hip. And now in the summer of 2009, Michael dies suddenly and Casey retires from counting down the hits. It's really errie that both events are occuring at the same time. With Michael's death and Casey's retirement, it feels like part of our innocence has been thrown out the window. Now the world will never be the same with Michael Jackson no longer with us and Casey no longer counting down the hits. God luck on your retirement Casey, and rest in peace Michael.
