I stumbled upon a handful of clips of America's Top 10 Casey's syndicated TV show. They can be found at www.youtube.com Type "Casey Kasem" in the search box. I'd love to collect DVDs of this show if they are available.

WOW, this brings back memories, and wouldnt you know it...the first clip I bring up has a question from a listener in the Orlando area, at least I know it aired there and what channel now.
QUestion though, this show was from March/April 1989, Casey was already hosting Casey's Top 40 by then but it seems he continued to I guess use BB for Americas Top 10. I know when I found the show on a wild feed from a big dish right before it ended in 1992 they were using Radio & Records, anyone know when they swtiched charts?

At some point around the host change on AT40, Casey stopped HOSTING AT10. He used to appear in a brief segment towards the end, and hosted the occasional full-show special, but that was it. Then at some point they started using R&R as the source for AT10 and Casey started hosting again.

He was so cool, he always had his feet on the couch. "Keep yer feet on the couch, and keep reaching for the remote!" -- Ryan Seacrest's replacement as AT40 host, 2059

You have to get the Seacrest shots in anytime you can Radioman, don't you? People know who Seacrest is, and I think I can speak for the majority in saying most if not all of us have NO IDEA who this Tommy Putrid guy is.

Its was Tommy Puett. He was on the TV show LIFE GOES ON. However, that show was on Sundays at 7 pm. It conflicted with NFL Football or 60 Minutes. Thus the show had low ratings. You don't see or hear about him anymore.
Getting back to the subject, those AT10 TV show clips bring back memories. I used to watch the AT10 TV show on WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit Saturdays at Noon. WDIV would not air the last hour of NBC Saturday cartoons, and aired Casey instead.

What else did they air? Americas Top 10 was a half hour. Did they show "Smash Hits" also?
I also got to thinking, I think Americas Top 10 in a half hour format still would be a pretty popular show today too. I know Radioman will do backflips of excitement for this idea....have his favorite guy Ryan Seacrest host the show which primarily counts down the Top 10 from the CHR chart, then intersperse out of commercial breaks with Casey Kasem counting down the Top 10 AC, Country chart, and also the listener question. I really think a show like this could work now.

I remember watching 'America's Top 10' a lot around 1983 or 1984. I didn't see it much after that, but I do remember that around 1986 or 1987 it changed its format completely.
In the earlier years, AT10 counted down the top 10 of the Hot 100 right at the start of the program. After the show changed its format, it was counted down slowly to fill the length of the show.
Remember how Casey had that director chair that had his name on it? Notice how he always wore a suit and tie on the year-end show, but never on the regular shows.
I still remember that catchy theme music used in the earlier years: "Nah nah nah nah nah NAH nah nah nah, nahhhhh...Top 10..."

I really think a show like this could work now. Thanks for pointing out Seacrest's weakness. He has had years to pursue your idea & good one at that. What do we get from him, an attempt of Oprah-style interview show (failure) & gossip host on the E! channel. Seacrest has shown no interest in waving the AT40 countdown flag rather waving just his own. Should we talk about the AT40 special on FOX? The show was about camera angles and Seacrest interviews while the chart scrolled on the bottom of the screen. You needed a pause botton just to write down the chart. At this point, I would say he is not "one of us", a countdown fan. Also, I would say based upon the AT40 special that Seacrest's ideal AT40 TV show would be an annual award show with the red carpet interviews and trophies handed out to artists rather than a countdown of the most popular songs of the past year. Chart achievement awards, no way....(etc.) Very similiar to MTV's annual award show except he would want to eliminate the speeches, basically, an ego-fest for the artists & Seacrest.

America's Top 10 switched from Billboard to R&R in the summer of 1991, sorry I can't recall the exact week. I believe after Tommy Puett, there was a female host briefly in 1992 who kinda looked like Downtown Julie Brown from MTV but wasn't, and then Casey actually went back to hosting it for its final weeks before it got the ax. I think they actually re-ran several old special shows Casey had hosted at the end if I remember right. All of this is foggy memories, after all it was like 14 years ago! I am certain that the chart switch was in 1991, though, I have the show from the week in May when H-Five hit #1, so I know they were still using Billboard then, but I think it changed pretty soon after that. My guess is that the Billboard chart contract expired and they chose to save the money as well as make the tv show line up with Casey's radio show.

I know that as of May 1992, Casey was hosting it because that is when I found it as a wild feed on my dad's big satellite dish. I would record it every week while I was at school and watch it when I got home, the feed for the new week's show came on a Wednesday. You are right Jeffster, the series ended with a bunch of special countdown airings....like 2 - 2 1/2 months worth. The last regular weekly countdown was the week Mariah Carey was #1 for the second week with "I'll Be There."After that they drudged up every old show it seemed they could find, some more recent like the Top 10 of 1991, others slighly older like the Top Acts of the 80's, and the Top 10 selling albums of the 80's, and then the final show which was old by 92 standards...a show from 1986(the date for the original airings were shown right before the show started) The Top Women of the Rock Era. After that it died, no fanfare, no announcement, it was just gone.

Can anybodyh conferm for me that Casey's was hosting the show on e. I remember seeing a few times during early or about march of 1995. I think he used R&R some weeks he would use the pop chart and some the AC show. I rememb er seeing the fallowing videos Wild Night - John Mellincamp When I come around - Green Day I'm The Only One - Melissa Etheridge
I think It was an hour show not the half hour format that was synicated in the 1980's and early 90's
please somebody conferm i am right and not crazy. How long did this version last and when did it air was the a regular time slot.

Sorry dude, I personally don't remember him hosting anything on E although he very well could have and I not know it. I do remember him occasionally hosting things in the mid-late 90's on VH1 though like the year end shows and I think he would do a couple of other shows during the year also.
