Dear Casey, I've listened to your shows since december 1975 here in Belgium (W-Europe) To me you were the father I never had. I've enjoyed and will enjoy your old AT40 shows for the rest of my life. And ...enjoy the rest of your life!

Wow, when did this announcement happen? I completely missed it, but I guess that's what I get for not paying attention to current radio. I wouldn't have known except for nenad's site, which I logged onto to check who was airing AT40 70's shows so I could see if they were doing the very first show again. I can't say I enjoyed most of Casey's recent shows, because of two reasons, one - the music has gotten so lousy, and two - Casey's voice just doesn't have the same sound it used to, it's not as good to listen to. That being said, it still gives me a strong empty feeling to think he is done for good, it's just always been a given that Casey would be on the radio on the weekend. Thank you Casey for many many hours of great shows, and for paving the way for the other countdown shows that came after it, including the one I briefly had the chance to be a part of. You are a legend and will always be remembered.

Very sad to hear Casey sign off for the last time today. He has been a big part of my life for a long time (25+ years). I have fond memories of going to great lengths to listen to his show when I was younger. I have notebooks and notebooks full of top 40 lists, and fortunately plenty of tapes of his shows.
Thank you so much Casey. Best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

A couple of news related items. First, you may want to watch ABC News tonight for an interview with Casey. It was a nice little 2-minute feature. I'm glad it got a little bit of coverage.

At this current moment, "Casey Kasem" is the #1 Hot Trend on Google Searches, most likely because of the ABC story. Kinda cool!

Casey, what can I say? You were one of the undisputed masters of the airwaves. The way you managed to communicate through your voice, your inflections and your considered speech was unmatched by few, if any. You really appealed to a cross-section of different audiences, and that in itself is an accomplishment. But better yet, you did it without sounding contrived. When you talked, people believed because you managed to convey the appropriate message at the right place and the right time. You came across as that most endearing of figures: the laidback cool uncle everyone would like to have. Thank you, Casey. Thank you for years of Radio History. And happy retirement too. You sure earned it.

Thanks to Pete for the tip off, as I flipped over to ABC news, as I don't normally watch US network news. It was a nice bit, especially seeing his booth and mic....looks like a neumann....if not, looks vintage...possibly what he started out with. It would have been nice top see him interviewed, but i'm sure anyone can understand and respect his decision not to.
I'm recording the audio feed of OZ FM via satellite now running AT20 for the 2nd time, it seems very clean, next best thing to the mp3 files, so will have a chance eventually to actually listen to it. caught AT10 off a somewhat tolerable internet stream via CKGX in sarnia...may leave it as one mp3 file, or cut it up...
does anyone have access to the cue sheets PDF files usually off the FTP site for AT20? AT10? would love to have that to add to the recorded show.
In any event, he certainly has left his mark on american radio history, with a lot of memories for fans with the reruns thanks to hard core collectors.
A sincere "all the best" to Casey on his retirement and hope that he "keeps reaching for the stars" himself.

Casey, thanks for the memories and congratulations on your retirement. You inspired me to want to get into radio, which I did in college and briefly afterward in commercial radio. I was unfortunately not good enough to make a good living at it and have since moved on, but it was a dream of mine I was able to realize.
I remember back in Junior High school, I'd make up my own countdowns and practice announcing the tunes.
I'm so glad to have the old countdowns back on the air, I listen every weekend and plan to for a long time to come.

Here's a link to the ABC news coverage tonite on Casey's retirement. abcnews.go.com/search?searchtext=casey%20kasem%20and%20videoChoose the second item for the video. The first item is the written coverage that Pete referred to earlier. Casey, we already miss you but with sites like this, the work and time you've put into your countdowns will never be forgotten and will always be appreciated. I remember the first AT40 show I ever heard, the Top 100 of 1978 and from that time I've been hooked.
