I just heard about the new recurrent rule introduced to the HAC chart:
Downtrending songs below No. 10 are removed from the chart after 30 weeks. Downtrending songs below No. 15 are removed from the chart after 20 weeks. Songs that have not peaked top 15 are removed from the chart after 20 weeks if they have had two consecutive down weeks in spins.
Sounds promising for AT20, i.m.o., making its refreshment in terms of hottest hits quicker.

Seems reasonable; now I wish they'd do the same for the CHR AT40 chart. Even Ryan Seacrest must be sick of "Let It Rock", "I'm Yours", and "Womanizer" by now.

I find the AC charts mind boggling. There are plenty of new songs coming out every week. You would think that it would benefit the entire industry to turn over songs more frequently--you sell more songs that way and I would think that listeners would appreciate it too.

Downtrending songs below #5 (instead of #10) are removed from the chart after 50 weeks. Downtrending songs below #10 are dropped after 26 weeks, not 30.

The Mediabase/AT20 rules are what is posted above. Otherwise, "Light On" would've been removed since it's in its 29th week on the chart and below #10 already.

This new rule does sound promising. It's not so much about chart validity as it is about jump starting the industry again. This could give more credence to a truer Hot AC format at a time when all formats are struggling.
